"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe."

Oh yes. A short nap was a very good idea.

You know something that annoys me? "It's just a sci-fi movie."
I'm not even a sci-fi fan generally, but sci-fi and fantasy get a lot of the same treatment, so it bothers me. It also bothers me because if people go around dismissing things like that, they just might be dismissing some of the best movies made to date.

Case in point.
Yesterday when I was over at one of our not!cafeterias eating, one of the t.v.s was turned to the Sci-Fi Channel. Some movie was just ending, with dramatic swells of music, so I sat down and started eating where I couldn't actually see the t.v.
And then?
Blade Runner came on (the final cut).

But now the best seat to watch from was taken, so I watched the guy that had taken it. He was clearly intrigued! He made his friends come sit with him. And they were all like, "Oh my god, you're watching a sci-fi movie? Why are you doing that?" and they just sat and talked to each other and he ended up just talking to them. They all ignored the first scene, that first so-noir testing scene (and its explosive end)! I stayed to watch that scene, even though I had a paper to write!

I know that the quality of the movies the sci-fi channel makes for itself is a cause for derision, but people should, say, watch the first scene before they jump to conclusions about something just because of the genre and the channel. :/

movies, blade runner, the world sucks
