Know what I got the other day and read last night~?
Once Upon a Time in the North.
LEE SCORESBY (AND HESTER*) BACKSTORY, COMPLETE WITH IOREK.
GO BUY IT.
" 'We been here less than an hour,' said Hester, 'and you already got us thrown out of a bar.'
'Yep, another successful day. But damn, Hester, you don't hit a drunk man with a stick.'
'Find a bed, Lee. Keep still. Don't talk to anyone. Think good thoughts. Stay out of trouble.'
'That's a good idea,' said Lee."
Of course, just because it's a good idea doesn't mean you're actually going to do it. Lee's got a bit too much of a sense of justice and honor to stay out of trouble. (Not that he'd ever phrase it that way.)
Such a fun, exciting little story, with such lovely main characters~ It also has engravings and little "excerpts" from other things, including a part from 'The Elements of Aerial Navagation' on landing a balloon, something Lee has yet to master at this point in his life.
I love that due to years of tons of exposure to The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife on tape, I can hear Lee and Hester (and later Iorek). Hell, I can hear Pullman narrating the thing.
So good~
Edit: And the little fold out board game that comes with it is awesome too. The objective is to avoid getting to the end for as long as possible.
In other news, Film & Video society seems cool, though it looks like there are a bunch of things they do off campus, so I need to get better with the buses. Three people I know from different places last year are all in the club, which is cool. Also, since our filmmaking program is pretty crappy, you actually get class credit if you participate in making the little sitcom the club does. And here I was just willing to do it for fun.
I'm in intro to ballet again, but this quarter definitely seems more intense than any of the times I took it last year. This is good, I might really be ready for intermediate next quarter.
Have yet to get into a pattern reconciling Chinese and Russian, but I have an idea, and should be able to settle into it in the next week or so. That'll make rp go smoother as well.
I have plans to indulge tomorrow, yay. Though I still have Chinese. And I should exercise somehow.
I really need to meet more people, though. :/ The fact that I actually asked my folklore professor if she had a relative my age named David, even if she did give me the opening to it, is kinda pathetic.
*Hester is one of my favorite characters in the series. She actually outranks Lee. I thought it kinda odd at first, but hey, equal rights for daemons!
