Who speaks up for Gwen depends on which version. Usually it is either Gwaine or Merlin that speaks up or defies Arthur sentencing Gwen to burn at the stake or some such.

Usually Gwen and Lancelot are having an ongoing affair (that everyone knows about to some extent including Arthur). Agravaine and Mordred team up to bring the affair to light. Lancelot flees. Arthur reluctantly orders her burned at the stake and orders the knights on guard knowing that Lancelot and his brothers (not sure) will try to prevent the sentence being carried out. Gwaine refuses to even try and guard against Lancelot rescuing Gwen.

Unfortunately one of Gwaine's brother's is killed by Lancelot in the course of the rescue and then Gwaine pushes for war for revenge.

Elyan is so poorly used and underwritten on this show I just don't even consider what they write for him as having actually happened. He should have had some kind of scene like Merlin's and the character was robbed IMHO. I have head cannon for Elyan that I like much better.

Season 5 had better or I'll be done watching this show. Can Merthur go any further except to actually become onscreen lovers? Since they are not going there can other characters and relationships develop please?

I know so little of the legend compared to a lot of you, still learning, so I love to hear about it. Thank you. I guess Gwaine was the right choice then. And I had no idea Agravaine even figured into it in legend. Interesting.

Yeah, for me Elyan is more like he was in my other story. That's season three Elyan anyway.

Merthur? You know this season there was so much of Arthur in bed, Merlin waking him up. Now that he's married, what are they going to do with that? I doubt unfortunately we're going to see much of AG in bed, innocent scenes of course, but I bet they're going to pass all that up now. It's not fair though because we had so many scenes of Merlin waking up a shirtless Arthur etc.

Still, I'm very curious at what's to come.
