It was so unexpected when he held out his hand and whispered his question into my ear. I swear it was something straight out of a movie. I really didn't know what to say but I laughed and slowly looked up into his eyes. He really wasn’t kidding and he put his hands on my waist to prove his point.
It was my idea to go down into the fountain I wanted to touch it; I had only ever been there when the water was shooting out threatening to drench me if I were to go any closer. The silver of the steel was cold to my touch and I let my fingers linger there for a moment trying to remember every last detail. It had been a wonderful night, and I smiled to myself as I knew I was falling for him.
We had been walking for a while, and my feet had begun to hurt. It was a starry and crisp night as we walked past deserted popcorn carts and empty chairs glistening with the midnight frost that made me feel so alive. If I could only say in words how great it felt to have his hand in mine… Then I saw it, the fountain, and the very object of so many of my photographic escapades. I ran towards it dragging him with me, not afraid to be myself, I skipped and felt animate as my hair caught the crisp wind. Reluctantly he followed me towards this silver mass that had captured me. I touched it, relishing the feeling, and I felt his warmth next to me. It had to have been at the perfect moment otherwise I would not have remembered it so vividly, but I heard the music play, simple acoustic with a crisp virgin voice as the accompaniment. I smiled, looked at the moon and let out a high sigh. I saw a sparkle in your eye, it wasn’t a reflected star, but a true glimmer of happiness and I draped my arms around your beautiful shoulders. You looked at me and smiled, you asked if I wanted to dance. This is the point where I felt the need to pinch myself; I was truly not on a Hollywood set shooting another teenage girly movie. This was the exact thing that would in fact bring me to tears and weep saying that if only I could be that girl.-- It was me, and I shone. I couldn’t help but laugh and smile, you took notice and I felt your smile upon me. When our midnight ballroom candles burnt out and the mysterious musician left bidding his ado to the young lovers in the starlight, we decided to make our way back home. I looked into your eyes; I thanked you for the wonderful time. There was a way that you looked at me then, and although I still had aching feet and frozen limbs it didn't seem to matter. While I was silent and reminiscing on your stare, you leaned forward ever so gently and held my waist. In a moment only a girl could cherish and love-- you kissed me. Your soft lips met mine, and I felt my body crumble. I let my hand lay once more on the cool steel gray of the fountain wishing that this night could continue on. The warmth inside though reminded me and beckoned me to return saying that nights like this weren’t sparse when you had love.
