Patrick Wilson.......
Friday, after waiting for ages, I finally saw the big screen trailer for The Alamo. And as much as I love War Epics and Dennis Quaid films......The thing that stood out the most about the trailer (besides the fact that they took Hans Gladiator theme) Were these sad emotional blue eyes that I have never seen in film before. I ran home and looked up the film yet again on IMDB and realized why I haven't seen those eyes before. Now I know why, he is a broadway star----- Not for long. I was lucky enough to get passes for a special test screening of the film in L.A tonight, and it would not do him justice to say he lit up the screen. With names like Dennis, Billy Bob, and Jason Patric....Patrick Wilson was the star of The Alamo. His speach as a commander, was so intriguing. I could not tell what was going on behind his soulful eyes. One moment he looked as though he was holding back tears, and the next moment he spoke with authority and passion. And most of all, confidence. He made an amazing transition from stage to screen, and as a film actress myself, I welcome him with open arms. What a talented actor.
And the amazing film itself.....
I know that no one wants to hear spoilers for films that they are waiting to see, don't get angry, but I just wanted to post a couple things about screening this film without giving anything away. First of all , it is AMAZING. The war scenes are effective enough without showing "blood and gore". The sound effects made it more intense and suspensful then anything. The acting was brilliant, especially newcomer (broadway star) Patrick Wilson. He lit up the screen. There was quite a few "comic relief" lines that really fit well. I am not quite sure how long the finished product will be, but I didn't even notice the length with all the drama and action that was going on. And last but not least, the directing/cinematography, especially the shot that was done from the cannon balls POV as it flew from one side of the field to the other and all the way until it hit, WAS THE MOST UNIQUE SHOT I HAVE EVER SEEN. Brilliant filmmaking.
I love seeing a film 2 months before it opens in theatres. It was awesome awesome awesome. ANyways, I have to get ready , drink, and head to Irelands.
