Shorebound, Day 528

May 08, 2022 00:15

A brief explanation.  I was invited to a Pathfinder 2e Agents of Edgewatch RPG late last year to stand in for a player who was no longer able to make the particular session.  So I inherited Talia, a Athletics Swashbuckler, so more or less a parkour pirate.  Our GM encourages us to take notes and present an RP recap of the previous session at the start of the next.  Since I guess LJ is still honoring that whole lifetime account purchase thing, and the kids are pretty much grown so there aren't that many cute kid stories anymore, this space will hereby become Talia's personal diary.  Let us begin! Oh wait, before we begin Talia, Eloren has one last little thing of note on the kids...The big one finished first year of college with a 4.04 GPA and the younger one went to Prom, so I FINALLY got to help someone gear up for a formal!  Ok, NOW let us begin!

===================================

As always, Father Dear, I love you, I miss you, I miss the Soarer, and I hope you drown in your wine.

This morning dawned pink, so perhaps some unpleasant weather is coming. Maybe I'm losing my feel for weather, or maybe it just isn't as reliable ashore as it is on the waves. Then again, I'm starting to suspect it just bodes ill in general. There are a lot of pink dawns here the are followed by some kind of trouble, so maybe it isn't always indicating *that* kind of storm.

It's good to be back with a crew I know, even if in the short time I have returned I've been stabbed by someone we were trying to help, attacked by a lot of freaky things, SEEN a lot of freaky things, and had a building burned down around me. And worst of all, our suspect got away. We tried to talk sense into his first mate, but she stayed true. Hard to fault, really, but it would have been nice if she talked.

Today...well, being healed a few times seems to leave one hungry and tired, though at least a decent sleep on an actual bunk helped the tired part. Aja really did a wonderful job, I can barely tell where that stupid caster (oh sorry, VICTIM) tried to rip my sail. On the subject of casters, Visandus still looks much worse for the wear. He seems a bit better today, maybe? Hopefully he will keep improving. Kiarra doesn't know how to not sparkle, and well, Kromnir is Kromnir. I started my day with a nice walk around the grounds. I saw the Captain coming out of a door across the way and climbed through a window, as I was just not in a social state of mind yet. Happily the armory was empty, or that might have been a bit awkward to explain. But it was a short reprieve, we were all called to see our COs as soon as we returned to the barracks.

We got a week of shore leave, and the Powers That Be gave us a lukewarm commendation and a pile of papers to go through. We might not have gotten our perp, but we got a lot of reading to do. Responsible people took the reading back to the barracks. Kromnir and I, the sensible ones, went to the kitchens to find breakfast, where we were handed a lovely basket of really nice pastries and sundries. I asked who had delivered it...it was the one eyed dwarf that we know to be a Pratchett associate. Kromnir fished a note out of the basket and we read it. Definitely from Pratchett. Yesterday burning his own inn down on our heads, today ego tripping by delivering breakfast. Seems about right from what I have seen of this guy.

We took the basket and note back to the rest of the team. I snagged a nice croissant - really sublime. One wouldn't waste these croissants on mere poison. Most croissants in this city are just ok, these were a level beyond. Visandus got very scowly after we read the message to the rest of the crew, and asked for the basket. I figured a nice pastry would help his recovery, so I handed it over. He slagged the entire thing. Kromnir looked disappointed. I am sorry that I didn't pass it to him first! Well, the one item I rescued from fiery doom made for good nibbling as we started reading through the pile of papers. Lots of leads Some of them sound real. One of them had a note "WASTE OF TIME." My bet is that will be the one that pans out! Lots of options to follow up on, tomorrow is going to bring So. Much. Walking. 15 years on a ship, and only a little over a year for the ground to feel stable.

Of the items recovered from Pratchitt's house of horrors, they let us requisition anything we found useful. I got a nicer set of leathers but I am going to have to stuff them with a sachet every night until they stop smelling like cellar. There was also a stuffed wyvern. It made me think of seeing the real thing soaring above islands as we sailed by when I was truly at home. Hopefully the rest of the team just think I'm being a bit childish, which is maybe true, but it also makes me think of the ocean, and family, and things I can't have back. I will take the toy.

Ok, that got a little sappy. Everyone got a little something, and the rest was sold and the coin divided between us as a bonus. We also got our payroll, it might have even had a little hardship bonus in it! Tomorrow, shopping and a free day...that I can already tell won't be just spent lolling around on the decks. It's amazing how normal this is starting to feel.
