The preparations were made last night with care
Knowing with horror that 6:45 would too soon be there.
Backpacks packed and hung by the door
Kiddies put to bed early in hopes they'd soon snore.
Clothes were laid out for the early morning rush
and suprisingly, my hopes they'd go fast, they did *not* crush!
Rachel's officially in PreK, and Ryan has marched off to tackle a grade with a number instead of a letter! So it was with great disgust that I set the alarm waaaay back and got everyone where they needed to go in plenty of time. Considering that we recently had the carseats pulled out of my car to redo the strap height and clean in/around them, I failed to recall that Ryan had to clamber over poor Rachel to get out at school every day last year, and maybe his seat should have been placed on that side. His seat is a bear to move, but I wonder if I can talk the hubby into it at some point...
Anyway....
They got ready in a timely manner this morning, for once. Having everything prepped no doubt helped. Note to self: Do this every night. Each of them had a first day outfit that they had picked out themselves over the weekend. Ryan's garb du jour: Chaps khaki's, a black t-shirt with guitars on it, his suede loafers, and a forest green backpack. Oh yeah, he looked sharp! For Rachel, we had a hot pink and brown sundress, a lavender backpack with a cityscape of New York on it, and of course, her princess sandals. Also super cute :-)
Well, we drove up bright and early to Ryan's school, the teachers were out to guide. Ryan unclipped himself, grabbed his pack, and scrambled out...and here Rachel was unbuckling herself and ready to take off after him ;-) Mommy, Ryan, and the laughing teacher at the curb all had to work hard to convince her this was *not* her stop. But we did...it's a good thing we were there early at a lighter drop off time, cause we were delayed a minute re-securing her!
We got her to the *right* location, and she hopped out of the car, looped her backback over one shoulder in true collegiate fashion, and was off. She was early enough for breakfast, so she oh-so-carefully put her pack on the back of her chair - she's quite proud of it, I think! I look forward to hearing their reports of how everything went today!
So other stuff: The poor hubby has been in a bad way this weekend. He got his MRI and xrays last week, and his referral appt is tomorrow. I know that probably won't = fixt, but I do hope they can come up with both a cause and a plan to cure.
His brother had to head home to be back at work today, but Ryan, me and his dad rode Marta down to the airport to see him off. Ryan really liked the train trip, especially the part down 400 where the train was passing some of the slower cars ;-) You definately run the gamut of scenery from North Springs down to the Airport. His parents are staying till Wednesday morning so they can take him to the appointment tomorrow - the last one we went to, they gave him a shot of something that, while it didn't knock him out like they had surmised it would, definately made him unsteady and not in any shape to drive.
Random Toddlerisms: We were having Marsala made by hubby's mom for dinner last night and had invited our friend G over. Nana and I went shopping for ingredients and left them to clean, with the promise that they'd each get a gold dollar coin if they had done a good job when we got back. They had (though they'd also gotten in trouble!) so I handed each of them a coin. Ryan dashed off to put his in his bank. Rachel looked at hers and asked me "Does it open?" I looked at her rather confussedly and told her "No, it's a money - it doesn't open." She then asked "So there's no chocolate in it?" AH! The light came on over my head! I laughed and said "No, no chocolate."
Hmm, 4 is the upper age for "toddlerhood." I guess I can't call them toddlerisms much longer...
And a random Colorado bit...we went with many of the extended family to see the "Iron Chateau Melodrama" in Manitou Springs - which was a family style dinner followed by a short play followed by variety bits. We were sitting at the edge of one of the sections with hubby on the end of the row. During one of the variety bits (a song called "Sugar Daddy", sung by the ladies dressed up as 40's style vixens) they came down into the audience to pick someone to pull up onstage. Guess who was chosen? Oh yeah - the hubby. The put sequinned cuffs and a similarly done up bowtie on him, and sang, danced, and played him up. He got a ta-da moment at the end, and when he was released to come back to his seat, Rachel yelled to him "GOOD JOB DADDY!" which got quite a laugh from the audience.
