spamalot is tonight!  and after many foiled attempts at communication, i've finally assembled a motley crew to go tonight.  i'm really not sure why i'm the one people depend on to coordinate things but i must be doing a passable job because everywhere i go i end up doing it!

now all i have to do is wait.  and work a bit.  i hate working on my day off, especially when i asked for pto but i guess you're never really off in this profession--not if you ever hope to make anything of it.  actually, this meeting i'm going to is kind of a big deal.  i was selected as one of the few people thought would be helpful in developing our "computerized physician order entry" system and "order set optimization".  sound boring, i know, but it's a huge deal.

you've probably heard about electronic medical records (emr) and how medicare and their government overlords are pushing for it.  well, it's been causing headache, heartburn and heartburn nationwide from the smallest clinic to the largest hospital system.  many bigwigs have furrowed brows and much money is exchanging hands over this and no one really has come up with a system that works great.  but that's typical of the government (or any bureaucracy for that matter), no?  they come up with a bunch of pie-in-the-sky ideas that are supposed to make things "better" and solve "problems" that may or  may not exist, but have no clue as to how to implement it right, nor do they heed warning from the little people that at the sharp end of the stick who have to actually live with it that it might not be such a hot idea.  it's sort of like communism--sounds great on paper, but the execution has left much to be desired.

well, i'm trying hard not to let it happen with us.  i've used this system before, in colorado.  my current hospital will be the largest single hospital system outside of the mayo clinic (who by the by, have a bunch of slaves, er, residents under the gun to keep things working properly) to implement it.  i have yet to drink the grape-aide, so we'll see we can learn from past mistakes.  i'm going to get it right, or die trying.  how og of me.

any who, spam is tonight!  and as soon as i wash the bitter taste of corporate rhetoric out of my mouth, i'm going to enjoy every last morsel of it.  k, lizzyliz and e are going.  superrice is in.  pixielily0323 is driving up right now.  it's going to be an interesting convergence of online, meatspace, work and personal friends and family.  i hope we don't cause the singularity.  then again, i maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing, either...

----

spentpenny, i really wish you and brazenhussey could've come up too.  we'll just have to plan for something else sometime soon, k?

spamalot, days off rule, friends, clusterfuck, letters from a slightly older doctor, emr
