"Workin' 9 to 5 / what a way to make a livin'"

Sep 13, 2008 06:10

1. Omigod. I left work at 2.30 in the morning. I am made of so so so much LOSE. But at least... well, I'm trying anyway... to not go into work this weekend. Surely I can do it?! That was the POINT of staying until 2.30am!! Bah. My work life is about to embark upon an ever more terrifying downward spiral over the next few weeks. I know it. *weeps* I shall try my best to maintain my weekends for flail.

2. Not that I don't flail at work. Because, hai, I think I'm done for - I flailed all day at the prospect of what I'm pretty sure is a NEW OBSESSION.

9 To 5
Hai. I really really need to be watching this right now. *weeps* It looks like it could be SO MUCH fun! Now I have to go hunt down all those promo videos that've already been put up and watch them over and over again. Until, like, it opens on Broadway in March/April NEXT YEAR and I bankrupt myself to go up AGAIN and see it. Argh!!

3. This is a largely music-themed post - when is it ever not - since I snagged a music meme from tamoshan and figured I might as well take the opportunity to resurrect my long-abandoned Friday 5...

But with these rules, this time:
Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter. (I got M!)
List 5 songs you love that start with that letter.
Post them to your journal with these instructions.

a. Misery & Happiness - Julia Murney (download)
Considering how non-discriminating I am when it comes to Julia, trust me when I say this song is nevertheless one of my favourites of hers EVER. It's just beautiful and so perfect for her voice (which is so rich in this album version), and the lyrics are just brilliant: Happiness smiles a sympathetic smile / And says, "Call me when you want to come back home"

b. Make Me Happy - Brian d'Arcy James, Julia Murney, Taye Diggs (download)
Oh my GOD. I'm addicted to this song lately; I cannot stop listening to all the BELTY AWESOME that goes on. It's so angsty, and Brian d'Arcy James has a voice that just won't quit. Of course, if you have him shouting at the top of his emotional and vocal range throughout a song, why not have him belt all of that out while Julia Murney (and Taye Diggs, whatever) is doing the same thing? One of my absolute favourite songs from The Wild Party.

c. Miss America - Alice Ripley (download)
I was actually going to upload Meadowlark (edited to add: which I did, at someone's request, so download here), because hai, who doesn't love Alice belting the crap out of the beltiest song to ever be belty? But this is Alice in rock chick mode, and it's fabulous. So ridiculously catchy and I just want to... I don't know, dance or headbang dorkily whenever I play this song. Alice's voice is SO AMAZINGLY VERSATILE.

d. My Brother Lived In San Francisco - Emily Skinner (download)
This song is ridiculously gorgeous and ridiculously sad - and of course, as sung by Emily, achingly beautiful. Her voice is just... *weeps* And it's so rare that a song can really just break your heart in just three and a half minutes.

e. Mei Tian Ai Ni Duo Yi Xie (live) - Emil Chau (download)
or Love You A Little More Each Day (Cantonese)
Here's something a little different! DOWNLOAD THIS FOR I LOVE IT. Even if you can't speak or understand Cantonese. I CAN'T EITHER. But it's amazing. This is a live concert version - Emil is covering a song by Heavenly King Jacky Cheung, and I daresay I prefer this pared-down acoustic version. And the way Emil's voice wraps around the lyrics... *happy sigh*

4. Also, I was alerted to this by naughtyeskimo: audio clips of Kristin Chenoweth's upcoming Christmas album are up on her official site! Yay! My favourites are her versions of What A Wonderful World, The Christmas Waltz and Do I Hear What I Hear. Oh god, how is it not October already?!?

5. It's the Mid-Autumn Festival in Singapore (and across Asia) right now. I don't eat mooncakes - just don't like the taste - but it's always nice to see people wandering the streets with paper lanterns. (I always wonder what would happen if your lantern catches fire. That would be quite sad, no?) Maybe I'll actually see them this year as I do intend to be out having dinner both nights this weekend rather than holed up at work or in front of the computer. ;)

6. The scab on my knee has dried up! It doesn't hurt! And hopefully won't bleed! I'm hoping to get back to yoga or something, maybe on Sunday. :D

7. Oh god, my alarm clock for a normal work day JUST WENT OFF. FAIL, ME, FAIL. I owe people other memes that I was going to do, but no. I MUST GO TO BED, ARGH.

8. BELT ALONG WITH ME, PEOPLE: IN MY HANDS THE FUTURE IS CRYING RISING HIGH OR DYING IN VAIN!!

alice in wonderland, broadway, meme, friday5, skipley, allison janney, tunespammage, music, lj - tamoshan, lj - naughtyeskimo, 9 to 5, kristin chenoweth, emil chau, sleep patterns of fail
