"the phantom of the opera is here / INSIDE MY MIND"

Jul 17, 2008 01:26

1. So yesterday, there was musical news of awesome FLAIL with 9 to 5. Today, my brain exploded from FAIL. Because news popped up on Playbill about Sir Andrew I'm-Completely-Crazy Lloyd Webber's sequel to Phantom - which is called, in a completely sad and dodgy way, Phantom: Once Upon Another Time. *weeps*

"The Phantom, having fled Paris, is running a freak show. At night, he crawls into his lair and makes love to an automaton that looks like Christine. Christine, meanwhile, has become a famous opera singer. But she's fallen on hard times because her husband, Raoul, has squandered their fortune. So she's accepted a high-paying gig from a mysterious impresario to open a new amusement park. On her first night in New York, she draws back the curtain in her hotel suite and comes face to face with her new employer - flash of lightning, crash of chords - the Phantom! Christine has a child, Gustave, but is his father Raoul or the Phantom?"

WTF KIND OF FAILCAKES SUMMARY FOR A FIRST ACT IS THIS. OMFG. IT READS LIKE A BAD BAD BAD  BAD FANFIC. An automaton that looks like Christine?! (i.e., A SEX PUPPET?!) A mysterious impresario with flash of lightning and crash of chords? PLUS a pregnancy!? OH GOD. I think the world might end when Sir Andrew finishes work on this... I would be laughing, if I weren't so horrified.

2. HAI Brian d'Arcy James & Gershwin = LOVE. British accent ftw. Plus voice of sex. SEX. Even though the audio isn't that great and this musical has the most nonsensical book in the world. Whatever. It's Brian singing awesome. (Side-rant: Why, in heavens' name, would people go to the trouble of tracking an entire show but NOT labelling the tracks at all?! This person split it right down to dialogue bits in between songs, but... NO NAMES. So I have to do it myself. Bah.) Fun times regardless. I'll do anything for new Gershwin music. And Brian, apparently. (EEEK. GITA AND THE POLISH ACCENT, LMAO.)

3. ETA: Pushing Daisies to premiere Oct 1. WTF. Two and a half months more to wait?! SADFACE.

4. Oh look, I think I'm actually going to bed before 2.15am!!! WOW. But I must, as I have to suffer through work before...

5. Dark Knight tomorrow - work permitting.
