3. THE RELEASE OF HQ PRESS REELS OF THE WILD PARTY OMG OMG. Thanks to the lovely
irnbruise, who gifted the press reels, Julia Murney and Idina Menzel fangirls across the world - well, across LJ, at any rate - have FINALLY had the opportunity to see a freakin' awesome live performance by these two ladies in what is surely one of the best musicals ever written. IT HAS BEEN EIGHT YEARS, PEOPLE. This stuff has been hidden from view for the better part of eight years. Thank god I've only been a Julia fan for two-three months, or I imagine my brain would have imploded today after finally getting such undeniably awesome Wild Party crack. Even so, I was basically a complete wreck and totally useless at work all day, but the marvellous
weazel_luv was kind enough to sustain me throughout the work day by posting a pic-spam of epic win (see here - warning, NSFW! Julia in her skivvies, LOL!). I rushed home like a crazy person to download and watch (and make icons, which is what I've been doing all night, omg!). MUCH FLAILING ENSUES IN TEH CUT.
- SO EPIC. SO SO EPIC. It's so fabulous to be able to put scenes and action and dialogue to the cast recording, which I have, seriously, played ad nauseum since I discovered it a few months ago. (Hey, it's kickass workout music, you can't blame me for that!) To see just how well the show fits together, and all the actors, OH GOD.
- Of course, there's JULIA. Good. God. She's so fabulous as Queenie. I mean, obviously she nails it vocally, since the show is written on her. And of course I know theoretically that she's a great actress and she'd have acted the heck out of this part. But seeing it is just something different, you know? (Seeing it live would have been even more kickass, but since that's physically, logically and all-other-kinds-of impossible, let's leave that be.) In fact, there are no words for the awesome that is Julia in this, beyond what
weazel_luv and I have concluded is the only way to properly capture Julia!flail:

I shall now leave this in various people's LJs when I am struck speechless by flail...
- IDINA. FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL. She - her character - is completely on crack in this, with the wacky eyes and the drug-snorting and the (fake, I hope) peeing onstage (they didn't FILM this though, bah!!). But honestly, I think this is one of the best live performances by Idina I've ever seen. She's just - so electric, and alive, and her voice is fabulous. She's belting everywhere and anywhere, and dude. It's just nuts.
- Brian D'arcy James is also flailworthy. BOYFRIEND. I love his voice soooooo. And he's an incredible actor. Burrs is such a tough role to pull off and still come out the other end as something approaching a human being. He makes that happen, somehow.
- Taye... not so much. IDK, there's something about his singing that bugs me, and he's not the most fabulous of actors, though he's good enough. He is, however, ridiculously sexy hot. Like, RIDICULOUSLY. As discussed with
weazel_luv, he and Idina must sit around in their spare time having crunching contests when they're not having energetic sex to mold their abs of win.
- I was supposed to go running and be, you know, healthy. Instead, because the download finished so quickly, I decided to run after I watched it. And then since it was drizzling, I was, like, well, FATE. STAY IN AND MAKE ICONS.
- Which I did! I'm not posting these officially yet, because there are loads more where these come from - I iconed for HOURS and only got through the first twenty minutes! (If I keep this up at the same rate, I'll have over 70 TWP icons by the time I'm done. (OMG TALK ABOUT EXCESSIVE.) They'll be animated, for the most part, because WHY NOT - we can finally finally have good-quality anicons for TWP, y/y?!?! But here are some sneak peeks. Including Julia DOING HER LEG TRICK BECAUSE SHE CAN.
