Not as awesome an episode as I'd been hoping for, but some really excellent, cute moments all the same...

It really is jarring when you watch the earlier episodes, especially season one, and you compare how much time is spent on the medicine. Obviously, I love the House/Cuddy action and wouldn't want to trade it for anything, but the medical cases are just hard to follow now. They don't really give you much to work with. This was most glaring with the 40 fellowship candidates. The POTW and the clinic POTW (did we really need her to have MORE freakin' airtime than CUDDY??) were all very WTF. Though I did love House's interaction with the POTW's kid.

Agreed on the better of Wilson's personalities in this episode!

D2 -- I believe that was the tagline for the second Mighty Ducks movie? How about Ducklings Lite? *eye roll* 13 = Cameron at her most annoying, in this episode.

I do really love Taub -- he's my favorite of the new bunch -- and his scenes with Foreman. They even paired up one duckling lite with his classic counterpart! But then playing the ecstasy guy was great. Felt old school, too.

Let me ask you this: They insert some sexual tension between House and 13? THEN do you hate her? ;) I didn't hate her through the auditions, but she was definitely way too early-Cameron for my liking. And closing the laptop on House, wtf? And I was thinking "pissy" before I saw YOU said the same. Definitely pissy, yeah.

I kept thinking, "Oh, I better cap this quickly so we can get some Christmas icons out there."

Honestly, hokey or not, I was happy to see the original ducklings together. NO EXCUSE FOR NO CUDDY AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY. If we hadn't seen House there, I could fanwank it and say they were totally off somewhere getting it on. Making out in the janitor closet or something. Home waiting for House in a naughty Santa's helper costume?

House in church. I was wondering where they were going with it. I've always thought House probably had a religion-infused upbringing (he knows his patron saints entirely too well). You know how you get the lapsed Catholic, who went to Catholic school, got whacked with rulers, identified the hypocrisy that is so melded into the religion. They should really reconsider their whole plan of action.

I agree that everything needs more Cuddy. But I love the medicine and actually could go for more weird medical cases with lots of details that are just WTF, because I'm a nerd.

Actually, more medicine AND more Cuddy, please. And if we can throw in Wilson, CTB, and the Ridiculously Old Fraud, that'd be great too.

There was definitely more time devoted to the case -- still a little distant and lacking in details. But at least we got some home invasion and some good old fashioned deception. I think now that they decided on which of the new ducklings are staying, they'll bring back some of the medicine.

So far this season, I think "Ugly" has been the best at balancing screentime for the characters. Definitely not enough Cuddy. It doesn't look like there will be much next week, either.

Wilson, CTB, ROF -- and I gotta add Chase to the mix. I love me some Chase!

Ugly has been my favourite episode this season too. I just rewatched the first two seasons, and I miss the dynamics of those episodes, but what are you gonna do. I'm warming to the new Ducklings (Ducklings Lite?) - even 13 because with Cameron being almost tolerable, I need another hot boring chick to hate.

Over the summer, I re-watched the first two seasons. I started s1 for my_vicodin recaps, and then Fox has been airing older episodes from the first two seasons since the writers strike really hit. I love how there was room for everything -- the medicine, great interaction with Wilson and Cuddy, between the ducklings, and so on.

The Ducklings Lite (we should poll people on the preferred nickname for the new crew; maybe we should choose another bird, call them geese or something -- I might just do that!) feel very similar to the originals. You can see that Taub=Foreman, Kutner=Chase, and 13=Cameron. They went through a lot of hassle and ultimately went for very similar characters. Did they do this on purpose? Are they going with House unconsciously recreating the old setup?

It's probably a very good thing Cameron didn't have any lines in this episode; it might've been even more overkill with all the 13 stuff. I do agree that Cameron's been tolerable -- and that freaks me out a little. ;) I actually like that they've sort of removed Cameron from the confines of doing everything because she luvs House. She's in a relationship with Chase, she's out from under House's wing.

I was going to suggest platypus but then I was, like, YOU MORON THAT ISN'T EVEN A BIRD.

I can't stand Taub. Seriously. I've warmed up to Foreman after rewatching the old episodes. He really didn't become an ass until S3, eh?

Platypus is good, too! The duckbill, the webbed feet. Should definitely be considered, I think.

Taub is actually my favorite of the bunch. For now, anyway. Foreman was kind of an ass towards the end of s2. I mean, sure, I think we'd all like to stab Cameron with an infected syringe, but he was still kind of a dick to Cuddy. But yeah, for the most part, his assiness set in during s3. I LIKE him when I watch the earlier seasons. Now he just pisses me off. He was tolerable last night, though.

you know we share the Foreman hate, we do. They massacred him in Season 3 with the complete assholiness of Foreman. MASSACRED. He's better this season too. And still the only one of the original ducklings whose return to PPTH ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE. Much as I love Chase, I'm still amazed he agreed to come back. Why, because Cam said they had to because she's addicted to House? SHUT UP CAMERON.

HAI I LOVE HOW OUR BRAINS ARE IN SYNC. Couldn't do this comment justice until I got up, so here I am now.

The medicine > is definitely getting short shrift now. They're paying more attention to House's shenanigans and whatnot, so I spend a lot of the time going WTF and moving on, when before you could actually get that moment that dawns on you and you go, fuck, House is smart. Now we're just supposed to assume it, you know?

House/13 - urgh. When he used the line "I need you", I figured a lot of H/13 fans would have been super-flaily-happy about it. She's just so PISSY though. IDK. I still like her better than I ever did Cameron, so I'm going to withhold completely condemning her for now. But this ep? Not good. She was heading in the direction of annoyingness for sure.

NO EXCUSE FOR NO CHRISTMAS!CUDDY. THAT WAS A MOMENT OF UTTER FAIL. I THINK WE NEED FIC OF THE CUDDY-WAITING-AT-HOME-IN-SANTA'S-HELPER-COSTUME MISSING SCENE.

Good catch on the House in church thing. We share the same views, I think. You don't get quite that bitter unless you've been through the same rigmarole for at least part of your life, you know?
