First! That hardly ever happens these days! I looked at the time you said it was at the start of this post and thought that couldn't be right, and then looked at the end ;)

SO GLAD you had so much fun at Emil's concert - it sounds amazing and dare I say it, I've hardly ever seen you flail so hard ;) Night of epic win for you!!!

Coincidentally, I have just got home from being shattered by Kate WInslet, but in Revolutionary Road. Damn. Just damn. Have you seen it yet? I want to discuss with someone.

Except you should probably get some sleep since you just pulled an all nighter :P

YAY FIRST. XD Oh god, I can't believe I pulled an all-nighter. The thing is I'm not even TIRED, because the concert and tracking it has me on such a high. I'm waiting for everything to go into a rar file now (it's taking ages because 68 tracks, omg!!). MUST SLEEP SOON.

Thank you, hon. I'm GLAD I had fun too - literally this guy is my longest, best, EVERYTHING fandom. I'd give everything else up if I had to, I think - well, on pain of death, at least. I like my other fandoms too much. ;)

URK. I really REALLY want to watch Revolutionary Road but I think it only comes to cinemas here next month or something faily like that. D: I would love to discuss it with you, but fail there. :( Leslie's seen it though!

OKAY BEDTIME.

Fandom makes everything better - thank goodness that no one is likely to tie you down and mak you give up everything but Emil anytime soon :P

You'll love Revolutionary Road when you get to see it - just prepare to be completely broken. I'm so looking forward to discussing this at Film Group in a few weeks.

Oh god, if they made me give everything up, I would be UPSET. Fandom keeps me alive. I'll cling to that as long as I can.

I really can't wait to see it. BAH. Bring on March!!

It's not that I don't think she was brilliant in The Reader, because she was, but Kate got nominated for the wrong movie this year. Of course, she's so consistently brilliant that hopefully when she wins it'll be more like a reward for her body of work.

It all comes from stupid campaigning for the Oscars. Why in god's name were they putting her in for Supporting for The Reader? Ralph Fiennes' bad hair was the supporting character in that, not Kate by any stretch of the imagination. :P And so the Academy chooses to be ornery by nominating this instead of Revolutionary Road, rather than both.

Agreed that a win for Kate can at least be for body of work if nothing else. Of course, I was also an advocate of Cate Blanchett winning for Elizabeth when that was her... ENTIRE body of work. Darn you, Gwyneth Paltrow and Miramax campaigning machinery, darn you to heck!

Absolutely stupid - but I guess that's what the studios had to do since you can't be nominated twice in the same acting category (which is dumb - if you rock it twice, why the hell not? Steven Soderbergh got nominated twice for directing and let's not talk about how neither of his movies were as good as Crouching Tiger). Kate's role was nowhere near supporting. Same as how they were pushing Dev Patel for supporting in Slumdog Millionaire - he's the lead, WHO was he supporting? Stupid political machinations. At least the Oscars called Kate's role in The Reader leading, although I still think she should have been nominated for Revolutionary Road instead. (As should have Leo but that is another topic ( ... )

It's true - if you rock it, you rock it. If you delivered two of the year's best performances, you should be recognised for it. But the Academy is stupid. WE KNOW THIS. I think we're gonna have to differ on Soderbergh vs CTHD though, because I have a whole set of issues with CTHD that means I'd have preferred pretty much anything else to win (which happened, so ( ... )

Yes, I realize in hindsight CTHD had a lot of issues, but even then I was convinced Traffic was not the second coming of Christ. And especially not Erin Brockovich ( ... )

I'm pretty sure CTHD was a cultural thing, if anything - I didn't think the movie was awful or bad, just not anything to write home about, in the larger scheme of wu xia movies. But then it became kind of like Titanic, when the insane hype overtook everything of value and just taints the experience and memory for me, you know? Neither Traffic nor Erin were especially classic films either, I agree ( ... )

Well, Charlize has made some questionable choices post-Oscar, but not nearly as bad as Halle. Plus I just love Charlize as a person so whatever she wants to do is okay with me.

I dug Felicity. Do I think she should have won? I don't know. I was happy with Reese, but I didn't like the movie Transamerica all that much. But, I guess I'm rooting for Kate Winslet to win for a movie I didn't care for either, so I shouldn't let that bias me.

Pretty much yes re: Kate. Beauty, talent, same difference right? (KIDDING.) Love how after Helen Mirren won all of a sudden the whole world thought she was hot.

That's the way the Academy tends to do it, which is a shame in a way. I haven't seen The Reader yet, and I want to, but from what I've read, she can't possibly be better in that than she was in this. Oh well - at least she got nominated and much as I love Meryl Streep, I want this to be Kate's year :)

The awesome thing about being Kate Winslet is that she's good in everything. I haven't seen Revolutionary Road, but if she won the Oscar for Reader over Meryl, I wouldn't begrudge her that either - because she was brilliant and the best thing about the movie. Too bad if she's even BETTER in Revolutionary Road though!
