Hello, ellinou, nice to meet you and thank you for hosting! It’s been a while since I felt like adding new readers, and I like what you’ve done with the place! 😉
The Basics (Can't Really Change Them) Name: Daphne P. Age: 47 Location: Philadelphia
Currently, what are you... ... Reading? “Wicked” (re-reading for my book club), “The Overstory”, and a novel by a friend. ... Watching? “Offspring”, a totally charming Australian show about a neurotic obstetrician, her charming and eccentric extended family, and her over-involved group of coworker friends. It’s like “The Mindy Project” meets “Grey’s Anatomy” meets “Call the Midwife” only with Australian accents, and I wish more people would watch it so we could complain about how the writing deteriorates but we love it still, and gossip about various characters. ... Listening to? my usual rotation, a mix of folk/indie rock with some reggaeton thrown in. ... Playing? random puzzle games on my phone, mostly. A little Pokémon Go. I don’t write much here about tv, music or games. ... Working on (job-wise and/or leisure-wise)? Job-wise, working with a career coach for a mid-career assessment and potential change, the desire for which I am relieved to find is not all that unusual at my age. Leisure-wise, I make dollhouses. Perhaps a little obsessively. I do write about these subjects. ... Looking forward to? Traveling again. Like, really, REALLY looking forward to this. ... Worried/concerned/annoyed about? Worried about the delta variant and how that may stall my plans to travel more, again. Annoyed about how American anti-vaxxers are ruining it for everybody, here.
What were your last three LJ entries about and when did you post them?
July 25: growing up without formal music education, and how that might still influence my adulthood. July 20th: the pleasure of re-reading a friend’s book, now published, that I first read in draft form 20 years ago July 20th: my experience participating in a psychology experiment/study at a local university, wondering how it’s rigged and exactly what is being measured.
Anything else? I write regularly and a lot, long-form, and with a fair amount of vulnerability/real life info. I don’t care if readers scroll on by when they don’t have time for long form, but because of my candor and vulnerability, I like generous and respectful readers, willing to engage in good faith. Also, I live with some well-managed depression and am open about trauma, grief, and loss, of which there has been some recently. I’m a “look on the bright side” person in general but my journal does not gloss over the hard stuff, as I find writing a great tool for finding my balance.
Adding you, where you can peep the dollhouses. I’m going to New York next week for the first time since before the pandemic, but I was hoping to make an impulsive trip to Paris as soon as possible-my friends and I were thinking November. With the restrictions increasing again, rather than relaxing, I’m afraid to book it, at the moment. Hopefully this is a short wave that passes quickly.
May I add you? I also have some mental health stuff and try to stay positive while not glossing over the hard bits, so I think I'd match your profile of a respectful reader.
Ooof, I could have written your entire last paragraph! Also super frustrated at antivax and antimask bullshit, especially living in Florida. Would you like to be friends?
