... I'm damn pissed

Ok, so you all know I write for Speakeasy (speakeasymag.com).

I was doing my first official article as a staff writer this past week. I was told to interview Steve Zarate, this man who plays music up near the Burrito Buggy on the corner of Union and Court Street.

Anyway, I was kind of under the impression that a lot of ppl on staff weren't taking him seriously.

So I got this IM from Caren (the editor) toniight asking for a photo. Well I left town last weekend and I don't have one and he is no longer at the same phone number (because he doesn't really have a home here ... he just lives with friend to friend). Anyway, long story short: Caren says, "Did you interview him in person?"

Me: Yes, at Donkey last week.
Caren: Well next time you are in person with a weirdo make sure you get a picture.

I was so pissed! Who gave her the right to determine he's a "weirdo?" The man has three degrees from OU for goodness sake! He chooses to live an alternative lifestyle that he finds to be more fulfilling than mainstream jobs. Just because she doesn't understand him doesn't mean she can go and label him like that.

So I spoke up and corrected her about it and she totally got all defensive and bossy with me and said she was just being "faciteous" ... no, more like vicious.

I am so sick and tired of people elevating themselves above other people and throwing put downs out there about others. I can't imagine what people say about me behind my back. Who gives any of us the right to say "i'm better than so and so..." Ok, so you have more money, or a more secure future? But does that make you any more of a person? In my book, HELL NO.

Caren prob. just got defensive because I made her feel uncomfortable. But I'm getting downright sick of this behavior from her and others. And to be honest I am just as guilty.

So from here on out I'm going to make a point to "make people uncomfortable" by correcting them when they start mud slinging. I hope someone does the same with me.

We are all so rediculous.
