Chapter Two. All we have to Gain.
“There are rules in a civilized society that should never be broken even with the animosity between are two collectives.” Logan told the man seated next to him. He was sitting in a bar with a guy he has known since they were at Andover together. They both ended up at Yale but were each destined for different secret societies.
“You think one of my members ousted you?” the man said as if he were shocked.
“Come on Abel don’t pretend you had nothing to do with this.” Logan said to him not buying his act, “Pick on me fine, but you don’t go after The Life and Death Brigade and you definitely don’t go after my girlfriend.”
“Think about it Logan how the hell would I know how much you paid for a dress or who was hitting on who in Bali?” Abel said to Logan trying to reason.
“Like you don’t have your spy’s?” Logan asked taking a sip of his whiskey on the rocks.
“Look man, fun and games aside I‘m hitting the campaign trail with my dad in a week, I have a lot to get done before then and screwing with you is not on my list of things.” Able said sincerely, “The real world is calling Logan.”
“So if you didn’t have anything to do with this then who do you think did?”
“You really want to know what I think?” he asked gesturing for the check.
“I wouldn’t have asked otherwise.” Logan told him.
“It screams inside job, man.” Able paid the check and stood up, “Read the article again. Pay particular attention to the people who were mention.”
“Wouldn’t it be the people who weren’t mentioned?” Logan asked him.
“Sophomore English with Professor Dolton.” Abel said to him.
“Look for the Red Herring”
“Exactly.” Abel turned around before he got to the end of the bar, “Your girlfriends hot.”
Logan laughed, “Yeah, thanks man.” he watched him leave with more questions then he got answered.

“I can’t believe she hasn’t called by now.” Rory said to Logan who was sitting on the edge of the bathtub, “She’s seen it and she hasn’t called me.”
“Maybe she hasn’t seen it.” Logan offered. He knew how close Rory used to be with her mother and he knew how upset it made Rory to know that there was a rift between them and she couldn’t fix it.
“My town is like the center of gossip,” she told him splashing some bubbles, “Not only do they know about it they’re already auctioning off pictures of me on eBay.”
“You know you could always call her.” Logan told her.
“Yeah I know,” she didn’t really feel like getting into it right now, “So how did it go with your friend?’
“He thinks there’s a mole.”
“Like in general?” she asked confused.
“In the Life and Death Brigade.” he corrected her.
“Who?” she asked standing up from the tub.
“No clue.” Logan said holding up a towel for Rory to get into.
“I can’t believe Stephanie grew up here.” Rory said cuddling up to Logan who wrapped his arms tightly around her warming her up.
“She didn’t.” Logan told her, “Not really I mean, she was sent to a boarding school in Scotland when she was six when she came home for the summers her family were already in Nantucket. So she didn’t really spend much time here.”
“I can’t imagine being away from my mother when I was six.” Rory said to him.
“Different childhoods you and me.” he said kissing her on her forehead, “I’m guessing yours was better.”
“My mom grew up like the rest of you that’s why she had to get me out.” Rory told him, “Sometimes I wonder what my mom’s life would have been like if she never had me.”
“She would have went to Yale and joined the Life and Death Brigade.” Logan predicted.
“You think?” she asked him.
“Your mother was a rule breaker in her time, still is I’m guessing. She would have been perfect, probably would have run though whole group.”
Rory was quite as she got ready for bed in this strange new room. As soon as they left New Haven Logan’s father Mitchum Huntzbeger had told Logan to go straight to the Vanderbilt’s in Manhattan. When they arrived they were greeted by a frantic Colin, an annoyed Stephanie, and Finn. Apparently the Life and Death Brigade had been told to abandon Yale and separate until the older members could talk to their lawyers and find out how much trouble the younger members were in. They were told not to leave but Logan said he had to meet with someone for a few minutes. Apparently Colin wasn’t to happy about it and hadn’t come out of his room since Logan left.
Rory got into bed next to Logan and he rolled to his side to look at her.
“So where were-” Logan started but was cut off by Rory’s ringing cell phone.
“Hello?” she asked giving Logan an apologetic look.
“Hey.” Lorelai Gilmore said to her daughter.
“Hey.” Rory said back, sitting straight up.
“So I was on my way to Luke’s today for my annual midmorning cup of coffee and I walk by the newsstand and something catches my eye.” Lorelai rambled, “If you’re thinking it was Nick and Jessica on US Weekly announcing their separation you would be wrong although if I did see that it would most likely cause the same reaction that seeing my daughter on the cover of TIME did.”
“Mom.” Rory began.
“Rory how did this happen?” Lorelai asked her, “My daughter thrown in with the likes of these spoiled rich brats who have no idea what trouble their causing.”
“Mom.” Rory started again.
“I raised you better then this!” Lorelai told her, “Where are you?”
“Huh?” Rory asked.
“After waking up a confused Paris who said she hasn’t seen you in two days I went to Logan’s dorm and his roommate said that the two of you left this morning and haven’t been back since.”
“I’m at Stephanie Vanderbilt’s house in New York.” Rory told her mother.
“Well that’s just great.” Lorelai exclaimed, “Come home now.”
“What?”
“Come home, we’ll deal with this together.” Lorelai told her.
“I can’t.” Rory said standing up and starting to pace.
“Rory take a cab to the train station and come home.” Lorelai said clearly.
“Mom I was told not to leave.” Rory sighed.
“By who?” Lorelai asked.
“Logan’s Dad.”
“Oh so you’re listening to him over me now?” she asked her.
“Mom it’s not like that, I could be in serious trouble and I’m already on probation.”
“Fine stay there.” Lorelai said defeated, “I feel like I don’t even know you anymore.” she told her daughter sadly before hanging up the phone.
“Rory?” Logan asked standing up, he walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her while she started to cry.

Rory woke up to the sun shiny in her eyes. She nudged Logan’s arm off her and walked to the window to look out. It was a beautiful sunny morning but Rory could tell it was going to be a cold one.
“Hey.” said a whisper from the door, Stephanie was waving her over to fallow her.
“Let’s go shopping!” she said excitedly when Rory got to the hall.
“Should we?” Rory asked not thinking it sounded like a good idea.
“I called Barney’s and there going to open early for us.” Stephanie explained, “Go get dress, are car’s going to be in here in a few minutes.”
“Okay.” Rory said heading back into her room she shared with Logan.
“Oh!” Stephanie said, “Don’t tell Logan!”
“Why?” Rory asked her.
“Because he’s Logan.” she said turning around and walking down the long hall.
Twenty minutes later she was standing out side clutching on to Stephanie’s arm as they clung close trying to warm up in the morning’s chilly air. Stephanie had let Rory barrow whatever she wanted in her closet which was practically the size of Bloomingdale’s. She had managed to sneak out without waking Logan, she felt a little guilty.
“There’s our car.” Stephanie said as a black limo pulled up. The driver got out and opened the door for them and Stephanie and herself got in quickly. Rory looked over to see Stephanie popping open a bottle of champagne and pouring two glasses.
“To us!” she said handing Rory a glass and then clinking together the flutes.
Rory drank it not really caring that it was eight thirty in the morning and she hadn’t even had her usual cup of coffee.
“So you cut in line.” Stephanie said to Rory.
“What?” Rory asked finally noticing that this was the first time that herself and Stephanie had been alone together in a year.
“There was a line to Logan and you cut.” Stephanie told her.
“Oh. Do you like-” Rory started finally understanding.
“Oh no. Not me. Logan’s like an annoying little brother who shows me the food in his mouth.” Stephanie began, “But there are a lot of disappointed debutants who are cursing the girl who made them miss their chance with Logan Huntzbeger.”
“Sorry?” Rory didn’t really know what to say.
“Don’t be!” Stephanie exclaimed. “I like who Logan is when he’s with you and I like that your not blond. There really should only be one blond in every group.
“Where here!” Stephanie said excitedly. Rory guessed that was the talk she had just received. The one that said if you ever do something to make him cry all make you cry, talk. Rory thought it went well.
“Don’t you just love Barney’s?” Stephanie asked as a woman unlocked the door to let them into the deserted store.

“Where’s Rory?” Logan asked coming down the stairs into the kitchen where Colin and Finn were seated at a table eating.
“Problably shopping with Steph.” Colin said his mouth full of Fruity Pebbles.
Logan’s breathing slowed down as realized that Rory hadn’t gotten on a train back to Connecticut like her mother had told her to do the night before.
“Hey I read over the article again this morning and I caught something.” Colin told both Finn and Logan, “Listen to this, ‘Robert Smith who also briefly dated Lorelai Gilmore was caught stealing some fifty year old whisky from the Dean of Admissions during his initial interview for admittance to Yale…’ if I’m not mistaking didn’t Rory and Robert go out like once?” Colin asked.
“Once where she ended up making out with me in the corner.” Logan said.
“How would anyone even know that Robert and Rory went out…” Finn asked not understanding.
“Robert.” Logan said getting it, “Robert is the spy!”

A/N- I must end this chapter here because I’m evil. Mwahhhaaa! Robert is the spy! Sort of… Kind of…. One half of anyway. What’s Robert’s last name anyway?
