The beginning of the end

Battlestar Galactica is back. The first of final episodes. The countdown to the end.

Kara, dead and reborn. But not like the 7. She is back exactly as she was - with tattoo and the dogtags and the ring and viper. Not downloaded but replicated. Exactly the same but also brand new. Like the viper. Like the 5?
What is she indeed.

The Final Four. Five actually, now that we know Ellen is (was?) the Fifth. Remembering bits of their old lives. And their deaths. I want to see more of their old lives. What made them so special that they are here now? Were they reborn on Colonies 2000 years later to fulfill the prophecies - heralds of what comes again? Or maybe they downloaded into the new bodies on sublight ship and traveled trough space for all that time? And they forgot who and what they were because they wanted to forget. Or maybe they are immortal. Does that mean Ellen is coming back? Again?

And the reveal of Ellen as being the Fifth - that certainly explains her strange and miraculous survival. On the other hand - Baltar checked her with his machine. Since it seemed like they all know it works and he just lied about Boomer and they used it to identify the Earthlings as cylon then Baltar should know Ellen was a cylon. Or maybe the 5 don’t register. Reborn as human? After all wouldn’t Tigh and Tyrol, as military personnel, be in the early batches checked? If Baltar knows why didn’t he tell - he doesn’t need to hide his crimes anymore. Or why D’Anna didn’t tell? It’s not as if keeping secret matters anymore - they are all friends now. Nothing more to gain, especially if she is planning to stay behind.
Also is Ellen the one she asked forgiveness of?
And last but not least did Cavil know the identities of the 5? About Ellen and Saul when he did all that to them?

I like who the Fifth turned out to be. It fits with the previous events and I believe she (unlike the other Four) was planned to be a cylon from the first appearance. I would probably be happy with any other woman too. I however accepted couple months ago that no matter who will turn out to be final cylon it will be a let down after all that hype. Noone could have lived up to that hype.

Just like he Earth didn’t live up to the hype. After all those years and all they went through Earth just wouldn’t be good enough no matter what. And it turned out to be a one big disappointment. When all your hopes are crushed when what made you go on turns out to be a big ball of ash how do you go on? Maybe you just don’t. Roslin chose to make suicide by refusing traetment. Adama tried to goad Saul to do it. Saul tried to drown. D’Anna decided to stay on a dead planet. And Dee simply shot herself. The only one who actually made it - no chickening out or pushing others to do it. The Earth broke her. So she made her decision. Got one last perfect day. And got out before anything could harshen her squee.

Despite being angry at the PTB for killing Dee (her story arc could’ve been handled better - it was really hard to understand her motivations and feelings) I like how she was in this episode. I wish there could’ve been more moments between her and Lee like in this episode back in season three. For the first time since season 2 I could feel the chemistry between them. I could also feel the common history and closeness and I finally believed in their relationship instead of just fanwanking it. I like how she supported him, so he could find the right worlds and right things to say. The sense of them knowing each other. I finally really got into that relationship. And they killed her off. Hate when they do that. At least once they could’ve done it without killing the character.

Agathons are the most normal, stable people in the fleet. And so adorable. I’m so afraid for them. What will happen when the specialness hits them too?

Poor Felix just got one more kick from life. And more guilt. He lost his best friend and will forever wonder if he could’ve done something and blame for not noticing something was wrong.

I liked it. And it took my mind of that dreadful thing that’s going to happen on Tuesday.  I’m waiting for the next one, even though each one brings us closer to the end.
