What I saw on my birthday

I went to see Red yesterday. And I had so much fun. Actually we all did and as my friend told me she end up enjoying it much more then she expected to.

Just as was to be expected characters played by Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren are absolutely awesome. They made this movie. Without them it would've been boring and predictable but they make it charming and funny. And I loved Brian Cox character who is not only not a bad guy but ends up being in most heartwarming part. Richard Dreyfuss is awesomely irritating (complete with fake tan :P) which actually serves the plot well. And Ernest Borgnine is a cherry on top.

Bruce Willis character seems bland by comparison but that's because he is the closest thing to a real hero in this story so his character is to be most normal and therefore least interesting. Although the constant smirk doesn't help. It's like he is the only one that only pretends to play the role in this movie. The rest of the cast is great. I just wish there was more Morgan Freeman and most of all Helen Mirren but one cannot have all.

I didn't expect to like Mary-Louise Parker character as much as I did. It's probably because I assumed she will be the odd woman out - simply helpless love interest. But she is pretty awesome in this too and it starts with the way she escapes at the beginning. Too bad she has to finally play the role that falls to most love interests of action heroes in the end.

Another surprise was Karl Urban character who is the antagonist of our heroes through the movie and tries to kill and thwart them but ends up being more and more likable throughout the movie. It's probably because both the people he pursues and the audience realise he is who they used to be in the past. Exactly the same. And also because we first see him and his worst but then he becomes more and more humanized. I really liked it.

This is the movie that is exactly like the trailers promise it to be. Fast, violent and fun.
