If there's only one mouse in the house, it seems to have moved. (Quite right, too - it's fucking cold in the back of the house.) Spotted it last night while watching late night TV (and the crawl of all the school closings... it's so cold I'll actually be staying home instead of making my weekly foray for the crossword in today's newspaper) - it came toddling out, in front of the chest under the TV, and bolted when it saw me. Also reminded me that I may have cleared up a lot in the living room, but there's still a lot left to do. Still plenty of mousy places to run and hide.
So, I got the trap... rebaited it (an apple core? Really?) with yummy peanut butter - a bait with some track record. That and salami, though that's more of a shrewy bait. Moved the trap into the living room... and not so long later saw the mouse zipping into the kitchen. Or I hope it was going into the kitchen, rather than heading back towards the bedroom/bathroom part of the house (plenty of tasty kibble, after all). Couldn't see for sure. Moved the trap back, in confusion, though will probably shift it into the kitchen (and hope that it doesn't decide to go for the pantry next, knock on wood).
Still, torn between not wanting mice running (or walking) around my house and not wanting the little bastards to freeze to death when they get chucked out into this current crap. (Yes, the mice who went for a free trip to the park are out in this current crap too - assuming they haven't died in the meantime - but they had the opportunity to prepare for it, do whatever mousy thing furbazoids do when it starts getting cold.)
