Thoughts on "The Day The Earth Stood Still", 2008 version

Whenever there is a movie in which the enemy/alien intruder can communicate with a geostationary defense satellite (somehow) and through that ultra-secure gateway access the "primary mainframe" and retrieve "all our vital secrets" in less time than it takes to order a quarter pounder with cheese, I ask myself two questions:

1. What the hell kind of codec do those aliens got?

and

2. Why the hell aren't I doing something else besides watching this crap?
