Summary: Ron just can’t take it any more.
“Do you have to keep doing that?”
“Have to keep doing what?"”
Draco was extremely puzzled. Ron had been grimacing and pulling faces at him all through breakfast. At one point there would have been nothing unusual about this at all but now, after being Harry’s boyfriend for over a year and having gained the acceptance of said boyfriend's best friends, it was an extraordinary occurrence. He didn’t think that he was every fully going to Ron Weasley, though.
“Just... don't. Please?”
Draco glanced at Harry to find a similar expression of confusion etched on his face. “What's he talking about, love?” Draco asked.
“I, you… argh!” Ron exploded before Harry had the chance to speak.
Choosing this moment to look up from the Daily Prophet, Hermione rolled her eyes at her boyfriend. "What I think he's trying to say," she explained, "is that he doesn't want you to use pet names."
“Pet- oh,” said Harry, brow creasing. “Why not? You do it all the time with Hermione.”
Seemingly recovered from his outburst, Ron flushed. “Yes, well, but... that's different, you know?”
“No, I don't.” Draco’s countenance was now much less friendly than it had been. “Would you care to explain yourself a little better? I'm afraid that I don't quite understand.” He glared at Ron. “What part of our speech is it that you object to? It can't be the particular words, as we have already establishes that you use them yourself. In which case, one must ascertain that your adversity is either towards those using the terms or who they are used about. Do you think Harry undeserving of being loved?” Draco shook his head. “I think not. Therefore, logically, it must be the person using the word that you object to.” Draco sighed. “And to think I'd believed us to be past this.”
It appeared that Draco would have said more, but Ron interrupted with a choked ‘no’. He swallowed and tried again. “No, it’s not like that at all.”
Draco raised an eyebrow. “Really?”
“Really. Just, stop it, alright? Its...” Ron was now almost exactly the same colour as his hair. “It’s just too cute. Stop it!” Mortified, he bowed his head and waited for the others to finish laughing. He was never going to live this down!
