90% of all accomplishment in life is "showing up" -- because if you do not keep putting your butt in that chair, the 10% of "great" cannot get written.

Can't argue with that logic... ellakite October 15 2014, 05:41:29 UTC
... but I must also say: I greatly enjoy working with computers (programming or modifying), and I am quite good at it. So it's extremely tempting for me to spend my "spare" time doing that instead of writing. And yes, I do earn money that way. Soooo....

That being said: I've enjoyed reading and telling stories since I was very young, so in that respect story-telling is my "First Love". I just wish that the act of writing itself came to me a whole lot easier...

Thanks for the feedback!

Even in computer programming (or computer building/modifying) the same rules apply - if you do not plant your butt and DO it, the "great inspiration" will never happen...

True... but my point is that I enjoy programming/tinkering with computers *FAR* more than writing, so it's a whole lot easier for me to put "ass in chair" to perform those tasks than it is for me to "plant my derriere" to write a story. So I don't have any real reluctance when it comes to PC design and maintenance and can put in hours of work without tiring... but I *ALWAYS* have to psych myself up to get words out of my head and onto the page... and I usually find the process so tedious/annoying that I look for any excuse to stop and do something different.

So while it's true that only 10% of my work with computers is "exemplary", I don't mind the time and effort I put in the other 90% of the time because I don't see it as a chore -- indeed, I usually view working on computers as "playing with toys". Thus, while 90% of my computer work is crap, IT'S CRAP THAT I *ENJOY* DOING! If I could say that about writing I wouldn't have such a problem...

It's also how my mother once won a chess competition: her main and worst competitor did not show up.
