sailing through

You know that feeling when you've lost control? That gut clenching, heart stopping feeling of just not being able control where you're going? Now take that feeling, and make it physical. Imagine you're driving a car and go to apply the brakes for an upcoming red light, and instead of stopping, you instead don't feel any change at all. That all the pumping and slamming and panicing in the world will allow your tires to find traction on the ice.

Then imagine another car -- an SUV even, making a left turn, and seeing you sail through the intersection too late. That instead of speeding up and getting out of the way, he applied his breaks and stopped right in front of the car that had lost control.

Oh, it's not a fun place to be. Because just as I was starting to feel better about my life and like I had regained some control, a patch of ice showed me how little I did.

Oh, everyone's okay, and since I actually hit the SUV's wheel, it doesn't look there's going to much damage at all, but it just SO wasn't what I needed right then.
