It's been an interesting past few days:

1.) We won Best Retailer 2008 by NASFT (North American Specialty Food Trade), which is exciting. This will almost guarantee a trip to New York in July to claim this honor... although I'm not sure if there's a cute name for the award like Emmy or Tony, etc. I think I'll just go with Nick's suggestion of "Gourmie".

2.) I finally got up the courage to order the Jamon Iberico. It was only legalized last summer and I had been warned that it would be massively expensive - on an impulse, I asked one of my reps if she had any available and when she came back with "yes", it seemed like the right time. So after fretting for the rest of the day and most of Wednesday, it arrived this morning with little fanfare. Much to my relief, it ended up being a substantially smaller piece for substantially less money than I thought it be - instead of the projected $77/lb, it will end up retailing for $50/lb, which is quite reasonable when Dean and Deluca in NYC have the same thing for $90/lb+. I still get a little uneasy when I think of this expensive little piece of pork sitting in the cooler. Oh, and it is delicious.

3.) Started Holst rehearsals on Monday, which was a sobering experience of preparing for one thing and realizing there is a great deal of work to be done on other aspects of the piece. Here I had been working on getting the rapid-fire fingerings of Jupiter and Mercury done, turns out I suck at counting in 6/4! Suffice to say, my neighbors will be trated to a special little concert of "Uranus the Magician" and "Saturn, Bringer of Old Age" this weekend.

So there you have it. Also, did you know Yuri Gagarin was abducted by aliens? Fascinating. *rolls eyes*

For the obligatory Eurovision update, from "Love, Actually" I give you Miss Dunkin' Donuts 2003.
