Lice aren't that big, so it's not going to be lice. Scabies do not involve black bugs, so tell Fratboy to shut it.

Based on your description, I'm guessing either a carpet beetle (that pic is super-magnified, they're wee little things) or grain beetle (even more wee than carpet beetles). They're both super-common, and while they're hassles and can cause damage (carpet beetles eat fabric during their larval phase, and grain beetles infest stuff like cereal and flour), neither will infest your kids or your hair.

OMG DID I EVER TELL YOU YOUR MY HERO?!! I'd been furiously Googling lice and scabies and couldn't find the little bugger but there he is! Twee little grain beetle! How the shit did get in my kid's diaper, I don't even want to know. Might be time to move the freezer in the pantry and clean under it or somethign? Eww.

BUT THANK YOU!!!

Little fuckers get everywhere. (Why yes, I have been fighting with grain beetles for years now, why do you ask?) It could easily have fallen from something he was eating. Grain beetles can come in egg form inside rice, flour, cornmeal, cereal, etc. from the store, and they they hatch, and boom! Now you've got grain beetles ( ... )

Well hell, my flour is just sitting there on the pantry floor, open, and the shelves are filled with pretty much every no-no you just mentioned. Looks like there will be a mass revamping of the pantry tonight. Bets on how much I'm gonna have to throw out and replace? *sigh* At least it's not scabies or lice, at least it's not scabies or lice, at least it's not scabies or lice...

Honestly, they're safe to eat, so it's not a big deal if one sneaks in somewhere. Most things will likely be fine; if you've only noticed one beetle around then it's still small-scale. If you have a serious infestation, you'll actually see the little fuckers running around on the counter, and you'll see multiple bugs visible in the flour, etc. Right now is the time to beetle-proof, before you end up with an infestation. :)

And trust me, these are WAY better to have than scabies or lice. These don't require doing laundry or anything, and they can't be passed from person to person. Putting boxes inside plastic bags is pretty easy.
