All in all it's been a satisfying few days:
I finally clocked up a small victory against nokia's horrible "customer service" policies: despite the fact i was originally told that i would have to pay $100 to fix the screen of my 2 month old phone that inexplicably broke the other day they ended up fixing it for free in under 5 minutes. Call it karma.. but as i was sitting in the nokia repair centre talking to the manager (very calmly and rationally) about why i was a little disappointed that I was having to pay them yet MORE money despite my phone being clearly within warranty and not having been mistreated in any way another unhappy customer absolutely lost the plot. And i mean this man was yelling so loudly about calling dept of fair trading, the fact he worked for the media and would make sure it was all over the afternoon news etc that spit was flying out of his mouth. I have to say i could understand why he was so upset, i'm guessing like me he had called customer care and had received similar treatment to me (a professionally worded "fuck off, you're on your own"), the guy had paid $1600 for his phone and was being told that in order to repair it all of his data could be lost.
So i felt bad for him... but as he left the manager looked at me, gave me a small half-smile, said "well, i'd like to have at least one happy customer today".. and fixed my phone for free on the spot. Hell yeah!!
* Had a great day off yesterday- main highlight was going to the screening of "Shootout" films at the valhalla. Basically shootout is a short film-making competition. Contestants go to newcastle, get given their brief at 9pm (including several elements that have to be included) and have to have a finished 7-minute film shot, edited and produced in 48 hours. And the finished products were IMPRESSIVE. Liam and I were there with a mate of ours who we both met through work.. he was actually the star of one of the films. I may be a little biased but i definitely thought it was one of the standouts- how could a movie about a guy being attacked by a dwarf who is actually cupid NOT be great?!?
*for garth- weirdly enough the little person in question is the same girl that was at the paddo a few weeks back- small world hey?!*
Then headed down glebe pt road for late night dinner.. which turned out to be a little surreal as about 20 minutes in bus-loads of mysterious japanese businessmen started to arrive, some in chauffered cars. By the time we left a bit before midnight the whole place was PACKED. Mysterious..
And now, i'll return to the new harry. Only 100 pages to go..
