last night the moon was orange and looked like a slice of cantaloupe over the highway.
in other news, my horse nearly scalped himself
the other day in the trailer:
we lifted up his forelock and all the skin with it, and could see his skull and muscle tissue all the way up to between his ears. i was mostly just so shocked that my horse is made of muscle and bone and blood that looks like
paint!
he was promptly sutured up and then stapled for reinforcement, and it now looks like there is a
zipper in his head:
so he got to sit in his stall eating alfalfa while i was racing diesel through streams and over fallen trees. my entire body is bruised and sore, but it's the greatest fun i've had in months.
this morning i took linus to meet the autistic children at the epic school in southside. i was warned ahead of time that a few of them may have to be restrained, and indeed they were. the classroom was a mix of shy and tiny little girls like kendra and aptiva and enormous walloping boys like jeremiah and keon, who both had to be strapped in their special confinement chairs. keon kept clinging to me incessantly, occasionally searching me up and down for pockets, and tried to communicate with words like "ferret" and "high five."
linus lay on his stomach like an angel and let himself be petted and prodded by all the grabbing (but gentle!) hands.
i think i want a job like this.
