Purpose and Value of Discussion
In the discussion that followed my recent post on historical evangelicalism, fpb said something I thought worth repeating:
[This is] what I think discussion ought to be about: that is, not trying to convince the other person - it is a bonus when that happens - but exposing your views and arguments to criticism and response, strengthen them where they are weak, and even, if necessary, jettison them where they really proved indefensible (but it takes a lot of strength to do that).
