As those of you local can see, it's snowing again. A good, steady snowfall. I have now shoveled the steps and drive four times in 24 hours and I have the feeling that by noon you may not be able to tell! [Edit: Or maybe not. As of 11:30am the snow had stopped and the sun was peaking out! There's more clouds coming in, though.] There is no visitor parking left on our cul-de-sac; that's where all the plowed snow from the lane itself is piled.
I spoke to my parents last night. My mother was supposed to be flying be flying to Kansas yesterday, but didn't because the second leg of her Norfolk-Cleveland-Kansas City connection had been cancelled. The automated system had not fully clued in; although she got an email telling her there was a problem with her reservation, they were still going to flying her to Cleveland, have her spend the night there, and put her on another flight today. She called and said no. So they re-booked her for today with a connenction through Dallas instead.
Last week I heard from
radishmatriarch and
lametiger about the power outages caused by the ice storm in Joplin, and I got messages via SCA channels about how it affected Oklahoma. However, I wasn't paying enough attention; I didn't realize quite how BIG the storm had been (one of the downsides of
theagentx & my decision to cancel our cable this past summer is that I don't get the Today Show anymore, which used to be my source for American weather). It hit Atchison, too.
My brother drove up to check out the farm. The power was out (and thus the furnace). Phil had drained the pipes (so they wouldn't burst), but had had some trouble with it. Dan helped out with that and then took pictures. There's going to be a lot of work to do. Grandma's favourite tree in front of the window where she used to drink her coffee, read the paper and watch the birds is split in half. It looks like pretty much every other tree has limbs downs as well.
