Firstly then thanks for all the lovely comments - I shall try my best to get to them, honest.
Secondly, then one of the things I love most about LJ is the way discussions spread outward. I bring you two posts related to 'The problems with Ten becoming Eleven' - partly inspired by my post, partly by Maia's:

Oh yes, I can definitely see this, even though my knowledge of Old!Who is very scattered. I think the problem is the introduction of the Time War, and how focussed on it, and damaged by it, Nine and Ten were. Eleven, as you say, is far more in keeping with the show of old, and a lot of New!Who fans (who love continuity and character development etc, and have been given careful Doctor-y arcs by RTD) are unsure how do deal with Eleven who's doing just fine, thank you very much. Knowledge of Old!Who, and how VERY different the Doctor were would be helpful indeed (was it Six who woke up and tried to strange his Companion?), as would the ability to just stand back and enjoy what we have. Personally I find these discussions v. interesting, because I find Eleven as delightful as a basket of kittens, and whilst working out a bridge between Ten and Eleven is interesting, sure, I honestly don't care that much since I'm happy just watching the show and enjoying the Doctor. :)
