Here it is, finally. Well the very beginning anyway... Most of the timelines from the different canons fit together pretty perfectly, but there is one major inconsistency as well as the problem of how and why did Jack chose to become 'The Immortal'. This prologue attempts to weave all these things together in a way I hope you think works (behold, I

Oh, you better. This was a great set-up (even as much as I loathe the song, haha). And I like the idea of Jack having no idea exactly who (or rather when) his other self is who set this up... time travel is confusing, but fun.
So with all the mentions of Time Lords, I hope I'm not hoping in vain for the Master to show up...? (Hell, given the two verses and the time frame, you could even have both Masters show up... now there's a crackfic waiting to happen, Master/Master... sorry, your story, do as you please.)

Don't worry. Dru and Darla are getting very impatient... ;)

Thank you! And I'm not too keen on the song myself, but I couldn't not use it.

Oh isn't it just? And time travel was the only way of bridging that particular gap, so I thought I might as well get as much use out of it as I could.

Um... yes. Sorry. Mostly I just embroider canon (a LOT), but who knows, I might write some side stories at sometime. And there will be *mentions* of the two Masters at some point. (Too good to pass up.)
Thank you lots for reading btw, I hope you'll keep enjoying it, even without Master-y goodness. (If there was any way of getting The Master to show up in Rome 2004, I'd definitely use him!)

Seriously, though, I enjoyed this a lot. The fact that he decides to go along with it, despite being a bit bewildered by the whole thing is so Jack. Also, poor Jack left all alone and bewildered just makes me want to hug him for ages. *pets broody Jack*
Jack found himself smiling as he thought of a certain ex-partner who’d truly revel in the opulence of the place. Although why he’d bother with such a backwater was a mystery. Maybe it was a hideout? Although Jack couldn’t imagine him abandoning so much money...
Snerk. Why yes, Jack, I'm sure he would.
Argh, now I am going to have to find time amidst packing to watch the last two Torchwood epis so I can read this once the spoilers set in. The things I do for good fic ;-p
Thanks for sharing this.

From other Highlander fans I gather than Methos is pretty awesome, but Jack is just too perfect! :)

Always the opportunist! I ADORE writing him.

I know. *pets him too*

Indeed. Couldn't you just see Capt John living it up in The Immortal's palace? *g*

Well it'll be a while before I get to anything spoilery. (Because RL is a bitca and I have v. little time for writing.) But you should watch them anyway, because OMG! *flails* You have no idea ( ... )

I've always believed that the Immortal was Hugh Fitzcairne.*eg*

Whereas Jack can be quite the exhibitionist... ;)

Having googled him, I can see why!

Okay, I haven't seen ANY of the new Dr. Who nor Torchwood, but to me this is awesome on a stick. I'm intrigued and I love this idea of the Immortal as an ex-con-man, soldier, lucky bum looking for his destiny. :D
So many pithy little lines! The handsome boy! The portrait!
Eagerly looking forward to reading more!!! And to our Jack finding out what the bleep is going on - I for one don't doubt he wrote the note to himself, and has travelled (or will travel) to the 15th Century to leave it for himself.
Woah... 15th Century Italy. OMG what an awesome time! *Squee*

Well you are missing out, but I am also reassured, because if this is comprehendable for a non-DW fan, then I've probably done my job pretty well, describing Jack. :)

A few basic things you ought to know about Jack: He's from the 51st century, he knows that he is fabulous and will shag anything that's gorgeous, and The Doctor helped set him on the 'path to redemption'. He left the Time Agency because they stole two years of his memories, and became a criminal instead. (There's more, but some of that will be filled in as the story progresses.) Oh and in 1892 he was shot in the heart - and then woke up...

This story is SO MUCH FUN! OK, so this part was a total pain, but the fun bits were still fun. :)

AS you know, I know enough DW/TW to be familiar with the characters but not to know for definite what's canon and what's your invention - do I gather that at this point Jack doesn't actually know that he's unkillable? (Because, well, nobody has tried to kill him yet...)
I'm also looking forward to finding out what the Immortal is planning to do with those nuns he apparently rescued from Angelus...

Thanks! :)

That could work quite well for me! *g*

Yes. In 1892, in a fight on Ellis Island, he gets shot through the heart - and then wakes up!

Oh they'll get a mention, don't worry. I think I use every single line of information we get...
