On paper Capt John looks remarkably similar to Spike... charming & charismatic killer, English accent, zomg hot costume - and yet he’s nothing whatsoever like our favourite bleached blonde vampire. Because for Spike it was always about love. Oh he liked killing people, but when trying to win Buffy he happily switched to saving them instead. (Only talking about unsouled Spike here, obviously.)
This is very similar to what JM said about the difference between the two characters at Dragoncon.
Apart from that, I've nothing to say. It was fun (apart from the blowfish, which was lame). And the kissing was hot, though sadly I fear it won't happen again. Jack made it pretty clear he doesn't want John any more.

I was far too busy enjoying and going squeeeee to think about it in this much detail. Though the blowfish knowing all about the team but clearly being in cahoots with Capt John was annoying. And Owen obviously has amazing telescopic legs to keep on driving whilst hanging out of the car window and shooting someone. Still, pretty and fabulous and such fun.
ETA - it was Grey, I'd heard somewhere that we learn about Jack's brother, so maybe that's who it is. Clearly something to do with the letting go of hands, but could be anyone. Hopefully we do learn more, and I'd love to know more about the time agents too.

Steering's just the arms (and quite possible from the passenger seat), but you still need legs on pedals to make it go in a forwards direction. Though perhaps it's Gwen who has the telescopic legs. *g*
blowfish-in-a-sports-car was a fun way to start the ep for someone that had never seen the show before. threw me back to Buffy's MotW. (though he was less charming after he started diatribing.)
again, this is the only ep I've ever seen, but I thought the fact that Jack was longing for both Gwen and Ianto was kinda funny too. my take is that Ianto is the one he really wants (and not just because I have heard the squee round the world). he doesn't really seem terribly concerned with Gwen until he knows he can't have her, so I take it as one of *those* things.
LOVED jack's reaction to the rehab conversation. it's sort of reminiscent of the way Spike can sometimes yank Angel back into old mindsets before he remembers he's a Good Boy Now.

I have nothing but positives to say about the episode!
I was thinking about the blow fish and wondering what it is about JM that inspires writers to have him interact with fish headed (Loan Shark on Buffy and blowfish on Torchwood) or fish (Beta George in Asylum comic)characters????? LOL I may think of yummy goodness when I see JM but not THAT way!

Well, I suppose if John ties Jack up and tortures him enough, he might come round eventually.

Hee! I hadn't thought of that angle before. Wonderful.
