Summary: Juliet sees Sawyer in a new light.
She calls him James, she calls him Jim, she calls him Sawyer.
He's not really any of these names, these people, to her. But there's not a name for that man yet.
Juliet knows each facet, each mask. James is the scared little boy inside. The one with the heart of gold, the one who wants to be loved.
Sawyer is the scared man outside. The one with the heart of steel, the one who wants to be hated.
Jim is some strange approximation of who James would have been if Sawyer never existed. But no one really knows what James would have been like - that possibility was destroyed, irrecoverable - so all Jim is is Sawyer's best guess. Sawyer's best con.
Then one morning Juliet woke up and there he was. Not James, not Jim, not Sawyer. Not anyone she'd read about on paper, or watched over a security cam. Not anyone she'd deciphered from his relationships with Jack or with Kate, or divined from his friendships with Jin or with Hurley.
He suddenly was just him in relation to her. Nothing else.
She still has no name for this incarnation yet and doesn't know if she ever will. Who knows how long he'll stay, or even if he can. So she calls him by all three of his previous titles, switching off, mixing them up.
He answers whenever she calls, whoever she calls, and she guesses that's all that matters.
