I got one of the best compliments of my life today.

I met my friend Sean for coffee this morning. We hadn't seen each other in six months. He seemed a bit distant and sad. He explained that he was a little worried because his girlfriend had a doctors appointment this morning that she was nervous about. He also talked about some problems that they're having in their relationship.

He got back to Seattle about a year ago upon finally completing his masters in acting back east at the age of 36. He is working graveyard at a 24 hour Starbucks at night and cleaning houses during the day. He tries to do theatre when he can but his schedule doesn't allow much time for it. We were only able to talk for about 20 minutes before he had to leave to meet her. On the way out he stopped to buy her coffee.

While we were waiting for the coffee to be prepared he stood looking at me silently for a moment, kind of a quizzical, bemused look on his face.
"What?" I said, smiling up at him.

"Words..I can't really.." he stopped and sighed. "I don't think I'm saying this right but there's something endearing about you that always restores my faith in humanity" he said.

My eyes started water a little. I gave him a big hug and thanked him. I was really touched. It made me want to be a better person.
