The thirteen year old boy in the house is on holiday with his cousins, but somehow I still found myself going to see Pacific Rim - a review if you don't know what I am talking about -
Mark Kermode Reviews Pacific Rim.
Not a subtle film, but my forty nine year old boy enjoyed it, and so did laosin and I - lots of robot/sea monster battles, but still interesting plot, reasonable characters and the odd daft joke, and I never felt the need to shout at the screen due to a lack of internal consistency, or excessive stupidity from the characters, which does help.
Only 1/3 on the Bechdel scale, sadly - but the MIB sold it to me with the idea of battle robots too big that it takes two linked human minds to control them, and I can see the possibilities in that idea ;-) The two bickering scientists were rather adorable, IMHO. Fred and George Weasley would have fitted in nicely, or perhaps the Williams sisters, or another two highly trained athletes forced to work together to save humanity...
Of course, the original Power Rangers need a team of about 5 to work the mega-robot - is the world ready for battledroid boy bands?
