Long story short

To catch up with the past few weeks, I thought I'd make a quick post.

Rob and I went to Michelle and Paul's wedding the first weekend of August, which was quite lovely (and the only wedding I've ever attended @_@) Since then we've been trying to get things in gear so far as our own wedding planning is concerned. We've finally set a date (May 17), and we're working on finalizing a location for the reception and a rain site for the ceremony. I've also been reading a book on bridal bargains, and am so thoroughly disgusted with the bridal industry as a whole I could just gag. Between the stores selling polyester like silk (and plastic like pearls), the stores bullying you to buy the "perfect" dress (now!!!), and the whole industry of swindlers and hacks I think I've pretty much decided to hell with all that. Luckily, Rob and I are very much on the same wavelength, ie something laid back, informal, and casual. The running joke between us has been that my dad's going to come dressed like someone out of Tombestone and his father's going to wear a plaid suit and the two of them together will set the tone of the whole thing (which is just the kind of affair that would please us to no end).

After that, we finally got to use Naea's rock climbing gift at Vertical Edge. Kelly and Aaron came along for the crazy fun. I haven't been climbing in ages, but it came back pretty naturally. I was, however, sore for the next several days, mostly from the one wall that went from a vertical to a 30 degree angle requiring me to not only climb with my legs, but hang and pull with my arms. Still, immensely fun. Unfortunately, Corey couldn't come along due to a grievously injured finger (this is why friends don't let friends eat at McDonald's, Fo!). I also missed the turn and was well on my way to Greensboro by the time I hit a highway that I knew didn't look right at all. Luckily, Kelly straightened us out and confirmed my directions (I'd just managed to miss my one big landmark).

We relaxed for a couple days, ran errands, and generally enjoyed a few down days. Then, I went to the beach over this past weekend. I spent all of three or four hours on the beach, but they were in the middle of the day so I was a nice crispy red by the time I got back. All-in-all, it was a great trip. Everyone thought it was going to rain, but we were determined to get some beach time because it was our only chance to do so as a family (Rob sat this one out, not being a very big beach person). As it so happened, everyone else was afraid of thunderstorms too, so the beach was actually uncrowded. We got to walk around Fort Fisher before returning, and the hotel actually had a really awesome continental breakfast (make your own waffles anyone!). Rob was kind enough to keep reapplying aloe to my back and shoulders for the rest of Saturday evening while we played Halo 2 and hung out.

That's about it for the fun stuff. We're going to come to Raleigh again for Labor Day weekend to look over the reception sites and visit with friends/family. We might also bring Loki (Rob's pet rabbbit) back here with us, as we now probably have enough room for him. We just need to bunny proof the apartment first, which will mainly consist of properly protecting wires and making sure he has enough things to chew on (besides the furniture/carpet). I'm looking forward to having another happy creature addition. Lately, Mary has been sneezing and having some diarhea and I'm worried that he's in ill health as he reaches the mouse equivalent of his golden years. Still, for a nearly one year old mouse, he is still very active and inquisitive, which I take to be a really good sign. There isn't really much else I could do for him even if he is sick. When I tried local vets about Elizabeth's strange condition last September, the general advice was to just make her comfortable because mice are so small that they are difficult to treat, and generally will recover from anything not serioius on their own.

I also have a job as an office assistant in the School of Art main office. I'm glad I got a work study position in a place where I already know just about everyone, and I know they're all really wonderful people. I'm working Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday from 10-2. Unfortunately, I'm none too happy with being an indentured servant to the government. *sigh* Just one more semester, right?

Well, I'm going to go hang out with Rob some before we have to hit the hay. He's got his first day of class tomorrow, and I've got work. Fun stuff.

TTFN.
