DEPARTMENT OF I HAVE A COLD: here at magical girl month headquarters we HAVE A COLD, oh gosh, and therefore are down for the count and have not posted in a few days. but here is something interesting about fandom and women:

bookshop: "Fandom perpetuates rape culture by silencing women, and we silence women when we remove women from our own narratives, when we refuse to write or read about women, when we talk about how female characters are stupid, slutty, saucy, too strong or too weak to enjoy, not written well enough, not worthy of as much attention as the boys are."

also, disarm_d made a post about using a softer world strips with bandom pictures...so i made a few with the like (and one with b. urie and s. smith):

i may have to write a story about how charlotte is a witch who, when kicked out of the band, curses z so she becomes a werewolf. i have no idea how the rest of it would go, haha! but i do love werewolf narratives♥

DEPARTMENT OF BLOGROLLING: i have slowly but surely started adding more feminist and fashion blogs to my dreamwidth reading page because it is so lonely (and also i have deleted most of the stuff i stopped reading on LJ), and HERE THEY ARE, if you have an interest!
tiger beatdown: ladybusiness: sample post on virginity, which includes a comparison to the bene gesserit box of pain.
go fug yourself, because i find them addictive and funny, and because, to my recollection, they have never commented on the size or shape of the woman wearing an outfit, just her styling. i appreciate that! this sample post on gabourey sidibe at the baftas was actually the second time i'd heard of precious, and it was an awesome intro.
wangie, a fashion illustration blog "unbounded by budget, sense, or reality." the clothes and accessories just delight me with their implausibility and devotion to texture and patterns, oh man.

DEPARTMENT OF I ♥ WEREWOLVES BUT DO NOT ♥ COLONIALISM: because apparently not posting about a magical girl means i just want to post THE MOST EPIC ENTRY OF ALL TIME!!!!, i picked up the second book of the parasol protectorate series, which involves ♥werewolves♥, actually, i really like the basic conceit of the worldbuilding of the supernatural in the series, which is that if you are supernatural--a ghost, a vampire, a werewolf, etc--you have an overabundance of soul that allows you to survive the transformation into such a creature and perhaps gives you special abilities. if you are preternatural, though, you are "soulless" (as in the title of the first book of the series), and you can cancel out the supernatural abilities of a vampire/etc by touching them.

p.s. this is all set in victorian england.

has anyone read these? i enjoyed the first one in part because the leading lady is "too old to marry" (lol), has to follow fashion by what's in style because she has "no soul" and therefore no feeling for fashion (looool), and likes to eat! plus: ~werewolves~!

but i'm early on in the second one ("changeless"), and there's all this talk about pulling troops out of west africa and the east india trading company and stuff, and i'm stalled: i'm just not sure if i want my supernatural victorian romance to also implicitly endorse colonialism. i mean, yes, of course it would be reasonalbly ~in character~ for it to contain colonialism, but still! has anyone read this? can you tell me what you think?

DEPTARTMENT OF USEFUL THINGS: pixlr, which is an online image editor very similar to photoshop, except: online! and free!

DEPARTMENT OF I WATCH TV ON DVD: so far, jonathan creek has included GIIIIILES the skeezy american magician, maddy magellan: sassy investigative journalist, and alan davies: secret genius. omg, i love it. xD

DEPARTMENT OF I AM LAZY: AS OF NOW, I AM NO LONGER ALLOWING COMMENTING ON MY LJ ENTRIES BECAUSE I AM TOO LAZY TO LOOK BETWEEN THE PAGES! you may comment at my dreamwidth posts! you may use openID to do so, or i can finagle a code up for you, or i think i allow anon commenting? anyway, i love you all, i just don't love having some information on the posts over at LJ, and some over here. :)
