Since my last post I've had at least one nasty scuffle with my Mom. It involved a man (that she claimed was a woman) riding their bike out in front of me (she claims they were walking it across the street) as I made a turn (I had already started my turn when they started across the street, though my Mom claims that they started walking before I started moving). I am still amazed that two people could be there for the same event and give such a radically different recounting of it.
Had a stress fest at work involving an idea that has come from California. This is a really nice idea, actually. The stress has come from the fact that I'm supposed to implement it with no goal, no plan and only some pretty pictures to go on. I had a feeling I knew who's idea it was when they got very defensive when I suggested that we double check that this would be acceptable under the audit requirements we had to follow. This thing has eaten my time and I've got at least one project that is nearly a month behind where I want it to be (and this project was a last minute thing that was thrown together last minute)
The wheels of my Dad's job search continue to turn slowly.
But the highlight and purpose of this post is to mention my recent trip to Cincinnati with
oasis_pink_peng to see
poptartodoom. It rocked. It felt like we only got the briefest glance of things, but I'm only calling that an excuse to head back at some point. Hopefully soon.
The first night we went to
LaRosa's and then saw Revenge of the Fallen. I think I'll post my thoughts on the movie separately. We drove over into Kentucky before we headed back (just so Oasis and I could say that we had been in three states in one day). I have now officially been to Kentucky. Or well, Newport at least.
Saturday we had EKP's incredibly nom-able french toast. My only regret is that it has ruined all other french toast for me. Nothing can ever compare. After breakfast we went to Findley Market, which is an open air market in the downtown area of the city. Then we headed to our main event of the day - the Cincinnati Museum Center.
It looks like the Hall of Justice.
I shit you not.
Cincinnati Museum -
Hall of Justice -
I have now officially been to the Hall of Justice. But they kicked us out at closing time.
After being chased from the museum by cranky employees that wanted to go home we headed over to
Rock Bottom Brewery. The food was pretty darn good. The amazing thing though was that I had a beer sampler and actually finished a couple of the samples and enjoyed them. For those that do not know I am not a beer person, but I make the effort every now and again. After all I can't find something to like if I don't try.
Sometime after dinner we made our way to a store called 'Jungle Jim's'. It's a grocery store. Made of awesome. It had everything. Even Mt. Dew Throwback and imported rum cake and a couple varieties of cider I had never seen. We all selected a tasty beverage of choice and then headed back and watched some Mythbusters.
Sunday morning was a slow start. Oasis lost a fight with some exercise equipment. Breakfast was simple. Then we did some shopping for toys (I had the hardest time remembering that for some reason) before heading over to the local Greek Fest. The festival was both tasty and fun. Unfortunately by the time we left it was getting late. Oasis and I would have to leave for home soon.
We packed up in preparation to leave. Loaded the car and headed out for one last dinner. This time we went to
Montgomery Inn. It was very nice, very tasty and right on the river. We sat by the window and could look out over the balcony to see the river. If it had been a little cooler we probably would have sat outside.
After dinner we had to part company and head home. I missed a split in the road but found the freeway anyway and it was smooth (if occasionally slow) sailing on home.
