Himos Midsummer Festival 2007 (music&pictures)

Jun 30, 2007 03:12

Woaaah, well last weekend was quite a package of music, alcohol, naked!kilt!men and deprived sleep~

Mawia, Nanni and I took some pictures of the artists that performed. Here's a small pic&mp3 spam for all of you to enjoy^-^ Two of the bands I'll intruduce you to is singing in Finnish, the rest of them record in English. There're also some other festival piccus behind the cut (though, I was very disappointed that Mawia didn't photograph the naked people running around, waving their kilts xD Oh the Finns know how to drink, that's for sure!<3 )

All in all, our three-days-long trip was a blast~ I was more than scared beforehand, since I was a little sick and fatique was bothering me after the hard week of work, but instead of me turning into a snapping bitch, I had the bestest of time^__^ I know, I know, I went to sleep very early every night, missing most of the big stars and stuff, and the tent of ours was friggin' cold around three to four am, but.. yeah, girls, we should camp more often\o/

We had tickets for Friday and Saturday. Poets of the Fall and Bleak performed on Thursday, so needless to say, I was a little disappointed that I missed their shows, though we we're setting up our tents already in the Thu evening (I guess that was sort of prohibited, since the camping area fee was included to the ticket price ^_-).

Our festival hosts, Peltsi and Juhalahti, superbly famous radio personalities. You could say I have a Juhalahti obsession (as Juuso, another media star, once stated, "Juhalahti is the Official Hobbit of Finland"), so Mawia was extra careful when photographing them for me~

EGOTRIPPI

Matkustaja
Älä koskaan ikinä

The titles roughly translated: Traveller and Don't you ever never

I'm not the biggest of Egotrippi fans ever. All of their singles are good -they have gripping melodies and lovely, soothing vocals- but they're a little too grown up for my taste. They have recorded a bunch of greatly written soft rock songs (Matkustaja being one of the best) but listening to an entire album gets quite numbing. The gig they threw at Himos was their first in eight months, so it wasn't any wonder that it was a little rocky. They had problems with their equipment and the vocalist kept forgetting the lyrics. They were also the first ones to play in the second day, around 4pm, so there weren't that many people to see them. However, it was a beautiful, sunny day and their relaxed, amiable music fit to the mood perfectly. (Like always, if you want some lyrics translations, just ask and I'll do my best.)

LAPKO

Hugging the Phone
Kill, Fuck, Die

We weren't too near to the stage this time (since it was hot and we wanted to sit, plus, the other girls weren't interested in the band at all *lol*), so the pictures were rather bad.

Lapko isn't a new acquaintance to me. I heard some of their stuff around a year ago but I wasn't too impressed back then, since I was living through a different "musical" period and punk this raw and vulnerable wasn't quite for me. A few months back I ran into them again in the form of interviews and I downloaded some stuff to re-listen to. I found myself enjoying Lapko crazily. I was really excited to see them live, since Ville Malja's voice is surprisingly fragile for a rock artist (I was worried it wouldn't carry too well). The live music&the audience swallowed quite a bit of it, but he sounded way better than I had expected. Lapko is like.. like a rock version of The Crash :D If there're fans of the said band, I'm sure they'll find this worth liking too.. or not *lol* I guess some people can't stand his.. miaowing ;)
What I most like in Kill, Fuck, Die is the melancholy, heart-aching torment. Though the title is what it is, the song isn't about deathmetal growling. Due to the fact they're still indies, Lapko sounds fresh, being able to express the painful things in life which aren't suitable for mainstream radio. They're breaking through atm, so let's see what future has in storage for them :)

Lapko OFFICIAL
<-their official site is stylish and reflects their music surprisingly well. The Trash section attracts me with its simplistic, yet thrilling design. Not too many bands can make red and black look this good :)

LAURI TÄHKÄ JA ELONKERJUU

Komia on aina komia
Rakkaus ei oo pysyvää

Oh boys, this is a band I really really really lurve<3 To really understand this band and their songs made with this very special sense of humor, you have to be familiar with such words as "puukkojunkkari" and "syntymähäjy". The band is coming from Pohjanmaa, which is famous for its hotheaded people^^
They're really goofy and the leading figure, Lauri Tähkä (how logic *lol*) doesn't take himself too seriously. He's just simply adorable<3
The band's music gets stuck to head easily. The songs are stories about people, families, love, sung in Pohjanmaa dialect, making even the sadder songs sound quite light-hearted. Oh, and the violin is a great add to the music, giving it unique sound. Try the first upload ("Handsome people stay handsome".. a really poor translation, I know-.-) and you know exactly what I'm talking about^^b

HANNA PAKARINEN

Leave me alone
Go Go
Summer of '69 [cover]

Hanna Pakarinen, atm the only female rock artist in Finland that can be taken almost seriously. Yes, this is ass radio-friendly and yes, the lyrics are filled with embarrasing clichés, and though I didn't stay to listen to her gig, I gotta say, her voice is nice, strong.. international. If you want good background music, pick this woman.
The first track is actually the one she performed this year in the Eurovision Song Contest x) Finland takes that competition way too seriously *lol*

SUNRISE AVENUE

Make it go away
Romeo
Fight till I'm dying

Ah, Sunrise Avenue.. My emotions are quite mixed when it comes to this band.. Their first full-lenght album On the way to Wonderland is, to say the truth, slighly boring. It's so radio-friendly, easily flowing, harmless that it pisses me off a little. But, when you see the band live.. they rock! This was their second midsummer fest gig ever, so they were remarkably excited about it. Samu Haber, the vocalist, was constantly jabbering, making the crowd sing along or jum up and down with him.. it was bloody fun^_^ Their songs sound so much better live that it's unbelievable. The simple texts are perfect to be sung outside, together with hundreds of other people, while bouncing crazily around.
After the live I've listened to the songs with "new ears", meaning that I can hear them differently now. If I need drawing music, I'll probably choose Sunrise Avenue next time. Addictive choruses, steady drumming, soft basslines, Samu's sexy voice, the cute keybord player.. yeaaaah, I can forgive them the slight conventionality^___-
All the three example songs are my favourites, but the first and third ones I've been listening mostly lately~

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mmm, my favourite incident of the trip was when the girls minus I and Nanni went to listen to Frederik (OMG! they're such fangirls!*lol*). We were sitting in the bar area, spying on other people (eavesdropping is fun~) and enjoying our drinks and the sun, when a man around at his fifties tottered towards us, smiling brightly. Before I realized a thing, he had already patted my head and stroked my chin. He grinned widely and said, "HA, I recognized you right away! Yes, you're the same girl! Eeva, you remember me, right? We finished secondary school in '76 and you went to Jämsä Highscool after that~" I mean, WHAT THE FUCK? :D It was hilarious xD Well, if the case is that, I'm damn well remained, don't you think? *giggles* We saw him once again after that, and he patted me that time too, saying "Yeah it's really you!" Oh he was wasted<3

Badass!Slut Mawia xD

Nanni took the photo, that's why you can't see her. From left to right: Kasumi, Mawia, Minna

Kawsumi goes all Pikku Myy<3 The cutest of expressions, isn't it? ^__^

And finally! I got my lip pierced :D I've been wanting to do this since Christmas, but there has been no time and loads of bad luck on the way.. now I have it, it's pretty, even mum admitted she likes it. When it's fully healed, I will buy this small black ring I've been drooling over at Bald Fellows~

Mmm, and I changed my both userinfos! ^-^ *satisfied&proud*

Gooood I love the new Alice scans~<3 They just couldn't be any prettier, now could they?
They're now very simplistic and clear, hopefully helping you to easily see what I'm like. The codes were found in reversescollide.. and graphics by me, surprise surprise (UruKai and ToraxSagaxNao, my new obsession~).

More pictures tomorrow (of me for Kimmy's project, some Jolli for Essz and random shots of my room, The Red Binder and.. well, there were some others too, can't remember now). I'm probably attacking the comments tomorrow, god I've became lazy, as well as your journals.. now I go and finish writing one tutorial.. maybe I get that up today.. woaaah, ME LOVES WEEKENDS<3
