Janet rested on the couch, her legs stretched out before her with a book propped open on her chest. She had been reading the novel intently but a series of loud noises from upstairs interrupted her quiet time. Sighing, she began to yell something and then changed her mind, with a shake of her head, she picked up the book to begin reading once more. A few minutes later she paused in the perusal of the page when footsteps were heard coming downstairs. “Sam?” she asked in a loud voice.

A hand covered her mouth from behind and a face appeared in her field of vision. “Shhh!” the blonde hissed.

Janet’s eyebrows rose then furrowed in question as she mumbled several muffled words. Not understanding, Sam pulled her hand away, allowing the doctor to repeat her question. “What have you done now?”

Sam gave her a sheepish look and whispered, “Flopsy and Mopsy escaped.”

“And I told you it would happen when you brought them home. Just like every other small animal you bring home to her escapes,” Janet said in a no-nonsense voice.

Standing up, Sam began walking quietly around the living room. She peeked behind furniture and along the lower shelves. “It’s not my fault they all turn out to be little Houdini’s,” muttered Sam in a low voice.

”Why are you talking so quietly?” the doctor asked in a normal tone.

Sam turned and placed a finger over her lips, “Shhh…be vewy vewy quiet, I’m hunting wabbits.”

The doctor just smirked while crossing her arms which made Sam shrug. “Okay, not the time to be funny, I guess…sorry. At least I caught Flopsy upstairs, so there’s only one loose.”

Picking up her book, Janet acted as if to ignore her blonde partner but in fact watched around the edge of her book as Sam searched the living room. Peeking over the back of the couch, Janet saw her move down the hall and into the office.

It was quiet for a few moments then she heard an “ah hah!” followed by rushed footfalls as Sam chased something back towards the living room. Hearing a muttered curse and then sneakers squeaking in protest on linoleum, the doctor rose up from the couch just as a loud thud of a fast moving something slamming into stationary something sounded from the kitchen. “Sam? Are you okay?

Listening carefully, she heard several choice swear words involving rabbit parentages and then a groaned out, “I’m fine.”

The doctor rose up to her knees and looked through the second doorway into the kitchen, she could see Sam’s feet by the door, still in a prone position. “Is the rabbit okay?”

She heard Sam giggle and then the blonde replied. “Yeah he’s fine too but I may need your help to perform surgery on the fridge.”

“How bad?” the doctor asked as Sam appeared on hands and knees in the doorway. She pulled herself upright and rubbed her right shoulder. “I zigged when he zagged and now there’s a shallow me-sized dent in the fridge door,” the blonde stated.

“Why don’t you let him enjoy his freedom and take a break? You never know, he might find his way back to the cage when he gets hungry,” Janet paused and then grinned up at Sam, “or when he’s not in danger of being squished by falling humans.”

“Very funny, Janet,” the taller woman grumbled but with a rotation of her shoulder nodded. “Okay, I’m taking a break from the bunny hunt.” She plopped down on the end of the couch and gave Janet a big smile. “So…what’s up Doc?”

A pillow bounced off Sam’s head and she burst into giggles.
