Russian Toffee recipe

Okay here it is so I can find it next Christmas:

1 lb white sugar
1 lb brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 lb butter
1 can condensed milk
1/3 cup golden syrup

boil until soft ball stage
cool slightly in a sink of water, add 1 tsp vanilla essence and beat until thick
pour into buttered tray
score into squares
leave to cool
cut into squares

old fashioned units cause it's an old recipe.

Edmonds cookbook recipe does not have brown sugar in it.
