Christmas traditions

It is interesting starting up our own Christmas traditions now we have a family. Cameron is old enough this year to take note of what is happening.

Trying to decide what to do about a Christmas stocking. I want to make him one, and it would only take a few hours I guess unless I decided to embroider his initial on it (as I did with my niece's ones) in which case it would take longer. I have nice ones I made for Nick and me which I had kind of planned to move onto the kids but now there will be three kids and I don't think I have any more of the same material any more to make another which matches. So maybe I will buy him one for this year (they aren't terribly expensive for pretty nice looking ones that will no doubt fall apart in a year or so), and see if I can't get my A into G a bit earlier next year and make three nice ones then.

No advent calendar - we never had them when I was kid.

We put the tree up this last weekend which was a bit earlier than I had planned but my mum was up (a funny story ensues from that in itself - for another post) so we went out and got one and put it up together. It's still only partially decorated - lights and tinsel is on, and the special hanging decorations and the star on top, but not all the other pretty balls. We have been getting Cameron a decoration of his own each year. This year it is a nice ball with his name on it. He has been carrying it around and hanging it on the handle of the box the Xmas tree is standing on. He took it to daycare a couple of days ago. So he seems pretty taken with it.

Christmas day starts with the stocking. This will have fruit (especially cherries which are the epitome of Christmas fruit), some chocolate, and one or two little toys in it. Then we have breakfast and then open the presents.  Waffles with strawberries and cream I think for breakfast. Then we head off to my brother-in-law's for lunch/dinner - not quite sure when that will start and stop yet. I expect I will be taking dessert. Pavolva is my speciality. Boxing day we will visit with my dad. The first dinner after Christmas that we spend at home will be ham, which I can't eat cold this year which is a real pain. But Nick and Cameron will enjoy it, as they both love ham.

OK enough rambling for now - need to track down my mother's Russian toffee recipe (which is really a fudge) and make some gifts for people at school.
