I mention this prominently because I think I remember hearing about cheap wine at Trader Joe's on my friends list. Unfortunately, the company that produces the wine is able to sell it so cheaply because they exploit their workers to death, in the case of Maria Isabel Vasquez, a seventeen year old who died two months pregnant after heart failure from heat exhaustion.
DO NOT BUY “Two Buck Chuck” from Trader Joe’s, as this is made by the same wine company responsible, and ask Trader Joe’s in your area to pull the wine until there is justice for Maria and ensured compliance with state mandated working conditions for all of Bronco Wine’s employees. (from WOC PhD)
I received this information from WOC PhD:
http://profbw.wordpress.com/2008/06/08/urgent-action-worked-to-death-and-no-one-cares/ You can read more about this and offer condolences to the family (I read that no one came to Maria's funeral) if you click on the above link. This has hit home with me, as I enjoy drinking wine and want to make sure that vineyards offer sustainable jobs at well-paying wages, not deadly conditions and exploitation of young pregnant women.
