Homeschooled people are so lucky in one way-school is a waste of time. Okay, maybe not completely, but it certainly wastes a lot of mine: I didn't actually start working this morning until 9.25, over an hour after I left home and fifteen minutes after first period started. Even then we weren't doing a lot. I sat around for half an hour in my free period because I couldn't get any work until I went to Physics, which was the class after.
In English Lit. in the afternoon, Mr. Neeson insisted on "re-capping" the part of the Tennessee Williams notes we read on Tuesday, then reading the rest in great detail-I'd already read them all. Twice. He also gave his not-actually-very-boring discourse on slavery, the American plantations and the deep south culture...which would have been fine, except we also had that on Tuesday. Honestly, never mind Lear and Willy Loman, I'm pretty sure he's going senile! Fortunately managed to get the Maths all finished, despite missing three of the last seven periods and not having a clue what we're doing! Actually, it's not all that bad, but I've never liked calculus involving ln x and/or ex.
The past two morning have involved a weird kind of déjà vu feeling since I woke up about a quarter to eight each time to hear Mummy shouting up, asking whether I was going to school. Yesterday I didn't, because I only have four periods, but I thought I'd better today. I'm getting rather disorganised in my old age: I forgot to get my blue slip signed this morning, I forgot my nominations sheet and I nearly lost both my pencil case and my calculator...but in other news, I did finally pay Miss McConkey that £1 I've owed her since before Christmas.
Yesterday I did a bit of work for Sunday School (modern technology is wonderful-instead of drawing all of the visual aids and things, I can scan 'em in and print out copies for me and the children!) and took down the Christmas decorations. Yes, on the 26th of January. I usually do it, and what with my exams, this year I didn't have time until now =)
I had another driving lesson last night and went through all the manoeuvres, none of which were perfect but none of which were really dire. Reversing round a corner is now the hardest. Also-major scary biccies-Edwin gave me a form with which to apply for my test. Considering that the waiting list is now down to five weeks, if I send it off now I'll be doing the test at the beginning of March, which seems frighteningly close. I've had about fourteen or fifteen lessons, so that would allow me another third as may again...still, five more lessons doesn't sound a lot! Having said that, it would be wonderful to have my R-plates up before my 18th, but I'd rather not waste £80 if I haven't a hope of getting it.
Fëanor was occupied all last night, so I watched Armageddon instead and, predictably, cried through the ending. I love the sarcastic genius with two degrees, and the crazy Russian :P Also, the cleverest man in the world was actually allowed to be English ;) There was an actress with our surname in it.. there's only us and a couple of other families in this country have that name, but I doubt whether she's related :)
On Tuesday afternoon Ashleigh and I went over to Rushmere to look for dresses for next week. She saw a gorgeous wee purple one, but it was £60 so she didn't get it. There was a black and gold one we both picked out that was only £18, but the size 14 was too big for me and I didn't get a chance to try the 10. I was so, so tempted by a black gown-full length, even for me (which is a miracle in itself!) plunge neckline and back, with a little sparkly pattern. It was reduced from £150 to £60, so it was a good bargain, and it actually made me look as if I had a figure...okay, Ash was slightly more tactful than that ;) but sixty quid is still sixty quid, and I do already have two formal dresses, even if neither has anything on this one.
Men are stupid. Throw rocks at them.
Is it better to be beautiful when you're young, and have to watch yourself get old, wrinkly, and un-gorgeousified, or never to be beautiful at all?
Just got apple crumble...it's all cinnamon-y and lovely :)
