Fiddler on the Roof - first night

Nov 20, 2014 17:58

Well, if you remember a posting a while back, I was trying to get people to buy tickets for my latest production 'Fiddler on the Roof'.

Last night was the first night and it went better than the dress rehearsal the day before. We still fluffed a line in one song and suddenly experienced a total solar eclipse as the lights went down too early at one point. The audience of 107 (theatre can hold 200) were impressed though.

I do have the best part though; Fruma Sarah, the dead wife of a character who is brought back in a made up dream by the lead character. It's a wonderful cameo where you can really go over the top with the singing and costume. I've even been given a very tall wig.

The fun part happens when getting into position to sing. I have to climb a step ladder to get up six feet and then lie down for the first half of the song so I can't be seen. Then after singing, lie down again before negotiating the step ladder again in the dark.

The costume is full length with extra long sleeves (the hands are stuffed gloves), so to get up the ladder, I hold the hem of the dress in my teeth.

Tickets still availalbe, but selling fast!!
