Redemption 2011 - Saturday

Mar 08, 2011 18:46

Saturdays at Redemption have turned into an interesting middle day for me. I don't actually have much time to attend panels.

Up early as usual for breakfast before it got too busy, then roped in R to help me carry sewing machine and stuff to the Chaos Costume room. I moved all the chairs to the side and investigated the bags of material to see what we had, before waiting for a customer. It wasn't long before I was joined and the three hours flew by quite quickly. We had good fun finding things for 'Beowolf' and 'Tinkerbell'. Slight frustration at one point as Tinkerbell's sleeve got sewn on up side down and had to be un-picked. I did slip out at one point to hand over some more script for the fancy dress.

After turning the BR12 back into a conference room, sewing machine et al, went back to the room and I picked up the cakes to deliver to the Zocalo. Had time to look around the Zocolo, pin the tail on the Beagle, chat to conosaurus_dex about his campaign, have a tarot reading and buy some cakes.

Then it was to the cabaret and fancy dress rehersal. valderys  and I were asked to wait until the end for our set up because ours was the most complicated (I only had three bits of music!). I must thank the Tech for doing such a wonderful job; it all seemed to go smoothly from where I was standing. Our runthrough went ok, but we jotted down the script for me to learn as I couldn't remember it all just off the top of my head. At least R and I doing Charles and Fiona isn't too much of a hassle (I hope).

At this time, it was only an hour until the music quiz, and as this was scheduled to run right up until the fancy dress, I went and got into my Evil Morgana dress. It wasn't as much of an operation as my Victorian Torchwood from last time and a lot less layers. Actually, after my triumph at Red 09, (and possibly the pinnicle of my costume recreation) I had wondered if I should enter this year, but Morgana just had to go and wear something flowy and purple didn't she.

Found a lift to take us down to the ground floor and the music quiz. Quick re-arranging of the room and off we went. Once again I was in gaspodex 's team, and his fastness on the buzzer saw us take an early lead. We nearly got caught out by a piece from Merlin that sounded like it had been lifted directly from Lord of the Rings, and our singing of The X-files obviously wasn't up to scratch (gaspodex  said afterwards that we should have whistled it). We won in the end, and great fun was had by all.

In the end, we had plenty of time before the fancy dress, but that gave me more time to memorise the script.

The time came, I donned my wig (Just my luck to donate my hair and then play a long haired character) and went on stage. It went fantastically; the crowd was appreciative of the jokes, I didn't stumble over any lines and the music cues worked perfectly. In the end we lost out to a wonderful 'Brain of Morbius', and 'Uther Pendragon' (I let him use the music I had provided as well!). From feedback, I discovered that there were only a couple of points in it, and it was felt that out skit lacked an ending. Oh well, I won last time so of course I had to give the others a chance.

R came and found me in the bar whilst we waited for our slot in the cabaret as Charles and Fiona from Round the Horne. Interesting to be introduced as a Redemption tradition. Once again, the jokes were recieved well and it just shows that classic material will stand the test of time. Went round to the back of the hall to be able to watch the Dalek Morris Dancing and Satan. Brilliant!

After the last Redemption, I had thought Blakes 7 Wobblevision was finished, but no.... All the tv episodes may have been done, but we have audio ones to do now. Just what you were waiting for, pictures to illustrate The Sevenfold Crown!. I was lucky enough to pick Avon, so got in a lot of the photos, starting by being whipped by valderys .

Whilst this was going on, we could hear the disco going on next door, and I listend with a pang as the Timewarp was played. Returned to the dancing just at the end of Startrekking and then continued through many con favourites. I am pleased to announce that you can definately manage to not trip over a train whilst dancing YMCA, Joe 90, the Macarena, Doctor n the Tardis and Bohemian Rapsody.
