The 1940s version is hilarious. Period dress is antebellum south, Darcy is charming, it's black & white, and Mrs. Bennett is actually sympathetic. Darcy has the 'look' thing down, but doesn't spend quite so much time stalking around. Oh - and the entire story takes place in about 3 days. Just under 2 hours, but they made it work (better than the new version). Odd to see Darcy & Lizzy falling for each other from the first time they see each other. Jane doesn't quite have the suparsugarsweet disposition towards everyone - she listens to Mrs. Bennett too much. Mr. Collins... oh, what a character. Instead of a slimeball, he's poking into everything. The entire story's told as if it's from Mrs. Bennett's point of view - and the married Bennets actually like each other. *glee*
