Two rather diseparate rants
1. the ripoff Austen writer (Rachel Pastan - wrote This Side of Married, a today's version of P&P) did not write a today's version Austen spinoff in order to comment on society. She did it because she fails at plot, and needed a structure to work with. Excuse me? Stealing Austen's plot is ok? AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE HER CHARACTERS IN AUSTEN STEREOTYPES, BUT THEY'RE ATTEMPTING TO FILL IN THE PLOTHOLES OF P&P'S PLOT AND IT'S ANNOYIKNG ME TO NO END. YES. ANNOYIKNG. GAH. If you're going to have Bingley go away forever and the ENTER new Bingley, you better have a decent reason for it. Or Darcy and Bingley/Wickham (if Wickham had gone after Jane) and Collins all having kids by former marriages. Or... herpetology. As loveable as amphibians are, they have no place in Austen. Ernk.
I was hoping to be enlightened as to WHY she made these changes. Instead, I got rather peeved.
2. this week is "coming out" week. Ok. Lovely. I'm on a liberal campus, I have gay/bi/nota friends. But PLEASE. YES, WE'RE ALL GROWN-UPS - THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE ALL LIKE TO SEE PROFANITY SPEWED AROUND ON ALL OF THE DIFFERENT SIDEWALKS OF CAMPUS. Were they all profane? no. there was a rather adorable 'sexuality hopscotch'. Dumbledore got a couple of cameos. But PLEASE. Yes I am conservative and yes I am christian and yes I am straight. But I am prejudiced against the spewing of profanity. Hopefully not much else - but I find that offensive. So walking around today with my nose in a book was almost obligatory. "coming out" week, whether a good or bad idea? idk. But the first day I'm back, I'd like to enjoy the beautifulness of my campus - not have to avoid looking down.
(other) It was a good day, I promise. I wasn't late to math; I didn't forget any homework; everybody loved my apple cake; I got some of my papers back. But still. *sigh*
EDIT: Today is actually doubly good: people were patient with my wrong-way following-momentum-instead-of-the-leader turns, and I got those ironed out - we're doing send-out, but half-way through, there's a spin. and then the sushi rolls, but they follow momentum so it's ok. and I GOT 5 LETTERS, A PAYCHECK, AND SPAM. ALL IN ONE DAY. I <3 YOU GUYS.
