The trouble with beadwork and jewelry making

May 06, 2006 15:26

1. I ADORE going to bead stores. I almost think I like searching for and buying supplies more than I like creating stuff. Though I enjoy that too. But I have so many beads. So many.

2. I have expensive taste. I never want those glass beads, and certainly no plastic ones. No. I want the strand of $42 labradorite facet cut and sterling silver accents.

3. I'm incredibly picky. I'd say I don't like 90% of what I see other people make. But I love browsing and getting ideas and I don't often feel creative enough to come up with amazing things on my own. A lot of stuff I've made is based of a necklace I saw in a shop or in a magazine. But the beadwork magazines are frustrating because they'll cost $6 and have one idea in them that I like.

4. It's just overwhelming. There are so many possibilities. I freak out and end up not making anything.
