Last year the General Assembly passed, and the Governor signed,
HB 1626, which would annex a subdivision to the
City of Guyton - pending approval by the qualified voters in a referendum thereon. The voters, by the way, were those residing in the subdivision to be annexed.
The referendum was held on July 18, 2006. The vote: Yes - 1 ; No - 1.
It failed.
In the records I've been looking at today (dating back to 1953), I've seen lots of similar votes, including a 0-0 tie from Clayton and Fulton Counties concerning the City of College Park in 1958 (Ga. L. 1958, p. 2854) (listed as "For" and "Agn" back then - we made a partial switch to Yes/No in 1973, fully in 1974).
In 1972,
Camden County had only one Republican. You can tell because in a series of votes on 8/8/72 (the state-wide primary election), the tally was broken down by party; each of the five votes featured a 1-0 or 0-1 vote by Republicans (or, rather, by Republican), while the Democrats varied at a little less than 1700. That same year,
Chattooga County had four Republicans, who split 2-2 on a question to abolish the state court there.
